Angry Compression Confusion

Every time I leave town (even for just a week) my 87 base has absolutely no compression when I return. On my last trip, I had my brother start it twice while I was gone. In fact, he ran it for a few minutes yesterday before it ran out of gas. When I got home last night, no compression. Actually, it does puff out the tail pipes, so there is some compression, just not enough to fire. What is causing this. Last time I replaced everything but the injectors and finally wound up pourig oil through the spark plug holes before she started. This time I started with the oil in the spark plug holes trick, and still nothing.

HELP, PLEASE HELP.

I would say the injectors are leaking a bit and
the motor might be getting weak,,, if the motor
is newer then the only other thing is a bad injector

I think its something other than compression. Have you checked the obvious things like if its getting fuel and spark? If its flooded, I will spin over like it has zero compression. If your plugs are old, the car will be hard to start.

I kind of figured the injectors were involved, just haven't had a chance to change them. It's weird that she starts once, and then later goes pissy. I don't know much about the engine, 214k on the car but she still pulls strong, so I'll operate on the injector assumption. Thanks.

Kristopher, care to see a T2 with bad injectors? Drop by my place sometime soon. The injectors finally died. Mine would start, then sometimes not. But whenever it did start, it'd start just as strong as ever. Now it doesn't ever start and just pours fuel.

Take the spark plugs out and disconnect the ECU. Then try to turn over the car. If it gets three good solid "chuff"'s in a row then that rotor is getting good compression. If there's the strong smell of gas and it's being sprayed out of the spark plug holes then the inj. are stuck wide open. With the ECU disconnected you will be sure it's not telling them to be that way. This is what's happened to mine at least.

Like others have said, cover the basics. It might save you a chunk of change. But you are sure that there is spark, the fuel pump is working, and the fuel filter isn't clogged, right?

Depending on how long your gone, and temperature at the time. Weak springs will cause the seals to drop slightly...No or low compression. If it's used each day, do you still encounter the problem? If you do have the problem in daily use, probably injectors. If not look elsewhere.

Used daily, it apparently now has the problem. My brother started it for me Friday afternoon and when I got home Friday night, it wouldn't go. I've pulled every fuse except the "Main" under the hood, and even then, the damn fuel pump comes on. I know there's spark, I used my timing light to confirm that, plus, the only original piece in the ignition system is the CAS. I know there's fuel, the only parts I haven't replaced are the injectors, and I smell it coming out the tail pipes. I guess I have to wait 'till I can get some injectors in.

Thanks guys.
