compression means everything for our cars, whether it runs great, rough, floods, or not at all. You can test the compression by using a piston engine compression gauge or better, take the car to a Mazda dealer and have them use their tester. Search to find out how to use a piston engine gauge correctly.

In an internal combustion engine the incoming air-fuel (AF) mixture is compressed in the combustion chamber just prior to igniting the mixture with a spark causing the combustion/explosion. The compression is achieved by "squeezing" the AF mixture into a progressively smaller volume by the moving rotor (or piston). That increases the pressure of the mixture within the sealed combustion chamber. If there are any "leaks"--such as faulty apex seals in a rotary engine or piston rings in a boinger--in the sealed chamber, the mixture will not be adequately compressed and will not generate the required explosive pressures at ignition for proper engine operation.

A compression test measures the pressure of the mixture when "squeezed" within the combustion chamber. If the pressure is well below design specifications, the engine will not run properly.

Depends on what is causing the low compression. There could be some different seals that are leaking, hoses, all sorts. You gotta find out what's causing the low compression.

Checking an engines compression will give you the best idea of the state of your motor while it is still in the vehicle. Typically the only way to increase your engine compression to a healthier amount is through rebuilding it. Would you like us to explain how to compression check your vehicle?

If you're having a problem with your compression or you think you might, you don't sound very knowledgable in the field to do the work yourself. I recommend finding a friend who can teach it to you first hand or take it to a shop.

I spent a full year learning about engines in general and then about the same time just figuring out the bookwork of a rotary engine and I'm still not qualified to do the physical work completely alone.
