cold start thing?

cold start thing?

well on my 90 gtu when i first start it ip it goes to 3000rpm then drops to 1500 and the starts jumping from 1500 to 2000rpm. and up and down till the car is at normal temp(warmed up) i know it can be tps but the guy i bought it from said the cold start something i dont remeber, was removed can. someone give me more info on this cold start thing?

hmmm...well starting up and going to 3k seems to be normal, and i think even the jumping may be normal. i don't drive my car in the winter but i know mine sometimes does jump up and down like that until it is warmed up or i start driving. but everything is working fine on my car and idle is perfect. i have also heard of a few people who have said that this is normal.

so i wouldn't worry about it unless you are having other problems.

if you do a search you will get lots of info on the cold start assist system. the FSM also has a section about this system. by the way this is seperate from the accelerated start system that increases your RPM...so your cold start assist system may actually be removed, but your RPM going up on cold start up is still normal (another device is involved)...

well, if you are refering to the sub-zero starting assist system i mentioned, here is a capture from the S5 FSM:




also, i would like to add that i don't see why you would want this device anyways? your location says san francisco, not exactly a cold place, and as you can see, these devices weren't installed on Californian vehicles to begin with...

i have that in my car, its jsut empty. there isnt anything thing else that would make my idel jump until its warmed up. i want to fix it cuz its annyoning.
