hi i have a 86 rx7. I just bought a new clutch kit from a auto parts place(friend works at autozone so it was dirt cheap hehee), i was wondering if it would be worth it to buy a aluminum or steel flywheel. What are the pros and cons of the flywheels, i mean what are you're guys reactions to the lighter flywheel. Do i need a lighter counterweight as well(i know dumb question but im not sure lol). Another thing im looking for is a good fairly cheap rebuild kit(apex seals and everything) and some templates i have a spare motor with i believe a blown rear housing but wtf do i know, lol. If anyone has a lighter flywheel used id be willing to buy if the price is right. All the help guys im lost here thanks,kevin.

the lightened steel flywheel is a great investment, it does not add hp but allows the hp to be transferred more effectively by reducing the amount of inertia needed to turn the engine. In hence the engine revs much quicker and transfers the available hp to the rear wheels more effectively. As far as the aluminum stay away from them for street purposes, they tend to stall the engine when coming to a stop. Yes you will need the counterweight for balance purposes, most kits like what rb or mazdatrix sells contain both. As far as the inexpensive clutch set from autozone goes, unless it contains an oem clutch disc that is made from valeo and you do some spirited driving your wasting your moeny in the long run especially if you intend do do exhaust and other modifications to the vehicle the disc will not take the added hp. rx7doctor

actually yeah i'm planning on doing exhaust and some port work. So i should get a clutch kit from like act as well? **** i dont have that kind of money lol. No on the aluminum for street eh thats what ive heard as well. Do you know of any good rebuild kits and some templates to do the port work. i have a die grinder and im going to try and do it all myself. thanks for the advice.

Well it's better to save up and do it once instead of pulling the trans twice.
act clutches are good so is ones available thru rb or mazdatrix, also i have had good luck with centerforce in the past. As far as the rebuild kits go you need to do some shopping thru mazdatrix, atkins, etc or find out by posting you has had the best bang for the buck, post under the clasifieds, maybe someone has a kit they have not used and templates that they have used and now want to sell. rx7doctor
