Cold Start Problem
Okay I tried a search but couldnt find a clear answer, so please if anybody can help it will be appreciated .
I have: 87 turbo 2, 850 miles on rebuilt and streetported motor, exhaust, intake, smog/emmisions removed, and RTEK Stage 2 ECU upgrade. thats all on power mods
Problem: whenever the motor is cold it takes at least 5 tries to get it to idle for a lil bit with me slightly pushing on the gas, (pumping the gas doesnt really seem to work).

Without the cold start assist.. you WILL have problems cold starting.. that should be common sense.

Those are three pictures of the cold start assist (thermowax) setup. There should also be some ECU assistance and sub-zero start assist on equipped vehicles (mine doesn't ahve that). IF you have removed them all... You'll just have to put up with it.

But yeah... could very well be your problems... warm weather is going away.. start getting used to it or get your thermo-wax on. Many people in warmer climates would be glad to send you theirs... hehe.

IF your talking about the engine not starting and hard to get started, then you might have failed to connect up the water thermo sensor on the back of the water pump housing.
IF not connected the ECU will default to a temp of 176* even if the water is just 80*F in reality. This higher temp would result in not enough fuel being delivered during STARTING. See the attached CHART for fuel delivery during STARTING i.e. less than 500rpm.
The AFM isn't used during START i.e. less than 500 rpm. Another thing that would compromise STARTING would be if the ECU did not see the START signal on pin 3B. IF the ECU does not see this START signal, then the ECU WILL use the afm for fuel delivery and that will also result in not enough fuel delivered during START.
IF your talking about keeping the engine running after a cold start, the above has nothing to do with THAT.

If you have a RTEK2.0, take a look at the water temp on it's screen. If the temp on the screen seems reasonable, then the water thermo sensor IS connected up and that is not your problem. The RTEK2.0 uses the water thermo sensor for that reading, so if follows that the water thermo sensor is connected up if you get a normal reading when looking at coolant temperature. If so, then disregard everything written above and look for the problem to be another thing.
