Cold Start Block-Off
Hye I posted lastweek that my cold start tank wasnt connected to anythign and was advised to remove it, so I will be. I now I read in another thread that something has to be blocked off. WHat and where si it, and what will happen if i dont.
Simple rule of modifying: If you remove something and it leaves a hole, you need to block off the hole. If you disconnect a hose and leave and open pipe, you need to cap it!
The cold start assist valve is located on the top of the end of the upper intake manifold. Look at the point in wich the LIM connects to the upper. It is on the upper above this point. It will obviously be the device in wich a hose is not hooked up.
The valve IMO does not need to be blocked off, it seems to only open under pressure, so to be safe you could put a vacuum cap on it.
I had some gasket making material left and took off the valve. I traced the base of the valve onto the gasket paper and cut it out. I took that as a template and got my dad to fab me up an aluminum block off plate out of it. Since the plate was too thin, I had to die the threads all the way down to the base for the bolts to secure the block off plate.
I also need a shorter bolt for the plate to fit nice and tight as well.
The easiest way is to block off the tube that comes out of the valve, with a vacuum cap or something. ****, you could even twist it shut if your real lazy or pressed for time.
To this day, I still have no idea why antifreeze, injected into a cold engine could help the startup process?
I remember searching heavily about its removal, and no one had a straight up answer.

Yes, in a sense. Antifreeze tends to stay very thin, and coupled with it's lubricating properties (slippery ****, isn't it?), they figured it's a nice thin liquid that doesn't freeze and turn to syrup in cold temperatures, so injecting it should provide some lubrication and also help seal.
