Clutch Problem?

I am not sure if this is a clutch problem, I have a 88gxl and when i accel in first, and also noticed it in higher gears but not as much, i can physically feel the car gaining speed, not gaining speed, gaining speed, not gaining speed, while just holding down the pedal acceling.... I really hope this is a problem with my clutch... because i just bought a new kit from napa lol! so if it is not what is the problem? and i guess i will have a new clutch N E WAY! ty

Your problem sounds more like a fire or fuel problem. I'd begin by checking this before removing the tranny to look at the clutch...

In general a slipping clutch will slip more in the upper gears because the engine has less leverage in 4th than 1st.

The clutch might take a few seconds to engage or it might slip under full throttle in 4th.

The speedometer will stay constant while the tach rises.

If it's a feeling that you can't see by comparing the tach and the speedometer, it's not the clutch.

so yes it is a clutch problem.. good, then i didn't go out and buy a clutch kit for nothin... *phew* and i really hope that is what the problem is... is it normal for a 88' N/A to need a new clutch by around 106-107k miles?

I'm kinda having the same problem. Loss of power in high rpms. I can rev it fine when in N but in gear I have no power higher up. I was talking to a buddy of mine and he said if it was the clutch then I would be able to smell it. I was doing some reasearch and I have a question. Could a TPS problem cause this?

Edit: Just to be clear... I can redline it when not in gear but I can't when in gear.
