clutch hydraulics problem

My clutch has been acting really weird lately. It would act like there was no pressure in the hydraulics and not disengage the clutch until i pumped it up a bunch of times then it would work for awhile. As soon as I would let the clutch out a little bit it would really quickly engage the rest of the way without me moving the pedal and it led to stalling out in parking lots and places like that a good deal. Once i'd start driving I'd go to push in the clutch and it would sink straight to the floor, but the clutch would still be engaged and would not want to work. This went on for awhile and no fluid was lost so I assumed fluid in the master cylinder was leaking past the first seal and back to the reservoir but not out of the cylinder under the dash. I replaced the master cylinder and now it seems to work fine engaging the clutch and is very steady, but after driving for awhile with the clutch all the way out it will have to be pumped back up again. Anyone know what might be causing this??

could be a worn out slave cylinder? or worn out pressure plate?

I have read that when one starts to go, the other usually follows suit. Thus, replace both simultaneously to avoid extra labor and minimize the amount of swearing.

I'd have to agree about the slave. The symptom is the same as before, which means that both cylinders were probably leaking internally. Slaves are cheap - I paid $24 for mine. Might as well change the flex hose, (<$15) too, so your whole hyrdaulic system for the clutch is new.

Go with an SS hose from Mazdatrix, and don't forget to replace the copper crush washer where the hose connects to the slave cylinder. I was having a similar problem, and it turned out that the little clear plastic valve in the master cylinder was missing. It goes right on the end of the plunger. If you bought your master cylinder somewhere other than Mazda, you might want to check this.
Look at the FSM, section 6 (Clutch), page 6-7. It's part #3 on the exploded view diagram.

I learned this the hard way too. Replace the slave, master, and the hose. It is worth it to do it all at the same time.

i agree, i have also replaced many slave cylinders in rx7's turbo and N/A's, do all 3 (master, slave and clutch line) things at once to eliminate all or any probs.

samething happened to me. I thought it was the clutch master because i didnt see any fluid leaking from the slave .but after i changed the clutch master it still kept doing it. so i bought the slave and bought the SS clutch line from mazdatrix and it went away.
