Chirping from engine bay.

Chirping from engine bay.
So I am debuggin the last few things in my turbo conversion.
While driving last night a chirp developed.
It sounds like a cricket and slowly starts around 2.5k and gets closer intervals the high the RPM.
I am assuming it's a belt.
The alternator belt is brand new.
I doubt it's this.
Could it be the water pump? I removed the airpump and haven't bought a dual pulley yet.
I plan to buy a alt and water pump belt tonight in case they decide to go AWOL while driving.

Just thought I'd throw that out there in case.
Other than that I'd get a friend to get in your car and hold the revs above 2.5k in neutral or until you hear the chirping. This way you can have the hood open and try to hear exactly where it's coming from, then you might be able to figure out why it's happening.

Well I'll see of a friend can rev it for me. I don't even have a hood on so it's easy work hehehe.
The spacer is fine. I didn't touch the alternator other than removing it and putting it back in but that huge spacer on the bottom can only go on one way without some seriously wrong angles for belts.
You had to space your alternator because it was an FD one and they are slightly off from our stock setup.
At first I thought it was my fan hitting the shroud but I am leaning towards the belt slipping due to no airpump. I never thought it would be this prominent though.
Maybe I'll do a search for that Yoohoo belt thread as a time filler while I get a dual pulley.

I'm talking about the large copper doughnut spacer (if looking in the engine bay from the front of the car) that is on the left (passenger side) bottom of the alternator where the extremely long bolt goes through. It fits in front or back just fine (for me anyways), and with it in both positions the belt actually does look like it's lined up fine.
Anyways, it's probably where it should be, just thought I'd give my experience.

See, there's a family of crickets living in the engine, and the faster the engine goes, the hotter it gets, so they chirp faster...
You don't have to have a friend get on the gas. Just open the throttle slightly yourself (look at the throttle body - there's a piece that moves. Move it. Gently.).
Also, check your belt tensions. Simple thing, but I've had belts loosen up before & chirp on me (well, OK, I didn't tighten the alternator enough after putting the dual pulley on).
Without an air pump, I'd suggest a dual alt. pulley. I got one after my engine rebuild (blown rear rotor) for insurance. The stock setup has 2 belts driving the water pump, and I would rather have 2 belts driving it as well. Less likely to slip, plus a belt failure isn't going to kill the engine (though if one lets go, the other probably will get beat up and let go as well - I need to throw an extra alternator belt in my car).
