Check out these mufflers

So I found these old RX7 mufflers in my garage. The PO gave them to me when I bought the car but I forgot about them until now. He said they are louder, but not too loud. His complaint is that they resonated thru the whole car when cruising. I tried searching google, etc but I couldn't find any info on these mufflers. He said their racing beat but their not. Does anybody know anything about these mufflers? How they sound, perform etc? Will they sound like a chainsaw on my mostly stock S4 NA?

They have a steel case with stainless insides, appear to be straight thru in design.

Here's what I got right now:

Whaddya think should I put them on?

They look like old Dynomax mufflers. The three chamber inside is usually a Dynomax thing, but why are the front flanges cut off?

Dynomax

No wonder he said they drone.

I am guessing when he got the mufflers changed out they cut them off right at the flange. I can get that welded up i'm not really worried about that. I'm just worried about how they'll sound. I still have a cat and a resonator so it shouldn't be too loud, but I could see the droning. Do you think a Borla XR-1 would be better maybe?

Looks pretty similar ehh?

yeah, I'm pretty sure that those are old school dynomax mufflers (But they do suck) If you've never heard them.........they do drone and the sound isn't very clean. Raspy and once they heat up good, they do drone quite a bit. You looking for loud mufflers, quiet mufflers, or something thats a good comprimise between (Racing Beat)?

I disagree. I like the sound of the dynomax muffs. It's not super loud leaving you with a headache yet not too quiet either. It's a nice deep sounding muffler giving my sub competition at 2800 rpm.

I'm looking for a quiet muffler but louder than stock. I can't even hear my engine at WOT as it is! That shouldn't be on a rotary!

What about the Racing Beat cans? They sound pretty nice and aren't too loud if you have the thermal reactor intact (instead of being dumb and buying a header which makes it super loud... oops.)

yeah Racing beat is known for it's subtle but rich sound, and at WOT it suddenly sounds less tame, everything else is good for street driving and not drawing attention, or waking the neighbors. An RB setup made my friend's protege sound awesomely rich, almost had that Ferrari pitch IMO.

I don't agree with you. I have the RB dual header with a Magnaflow presilencer and stock mufflers. Not loud at all. I am suprised, it's almost a straight pipe situation yet it is very mello.

the stock mufflers really keep the noise down, that is until they eventually blow up.
