Check out my Tranny Mount... looks weird (PICS)

So i took out my turbo to port the wastegate today... while i was under the car i nodiced that the crossmember on the tranny looked a little weird. There is a 17mm bolt with a 2" washer on it, then there is a huge gap between the washer and the cross member. I pushed up on the tranny and nodiced it had some give..... i am assuming my tranny mount bushing is broken, can someone tell me for sure.

Here are the pics, sorry they are a little fuzzy..

Dont mind the coolant on the tranny there... the hose that feeds coolant to the firewall WAS leaking.. fixed now.. stupid leaks

should be a rubber bushing in there. looks like your rubber cracked and fell off. Find some 3/4" 84A ureathane to put in there.

That pc hanging down is not the OEM exhaust hanger as far as I've seen on any S4/S5.

Competition version of above (much stiffer)
2 needed 39-3400-FBY1
Go to mazda trix and look under alignment tools tou can see for yourself. I just put them on my car and you are missing bushing

Propbably a modified hanger for an aftermarket system.

If you got poly mounts would you even need the center bushing.

Btw mazda trix says you have to buy the crossmember to get the new center bushing i think.

Yea it looks like the surrounding bushing just came off and now its loose. Just pick it up from mazda and you should be fine.

I think everyone is looking at the wrong thing.

That center bolt you speak of (which is not 17mm, but the nut is) is the backup trany mount if the two primary mounts fail. If your two primary mounts fail then the trany will drop down onto the cross member and that thing i thing keeps it from becoming a larger problem. check the actual pair of transmission mounts to see if they are ripped.

AFAIK that is how that piece is intended to work. It's a backup should your trany mounts shred it keeps the transmission from bouncing around under the car in the tunnel.

The banzi mounts are nice replacement units that are pretty damn unbreakable.

These are the actual mounts, not the piece he is refereing to. Although it is true his mounts may have failed to cause it to drop down like that.

i use the mazdatrix Y mounts and they are very good. The centre mount you mean is fine, if your Y mounts had failed then it would drop down onto that mount. The stock mounts give a little as you accelrate hard, when they can give no more it hits the centre mount.

The two y mounts dont tend to break - just sag. They then put pressure on the center crossmember (which is not supposed to hold that directional weight.

You should replace al three (you must buy the entire crossmember piece - pricey).

I ended up doing the same, as well as changing both engine and all three differential mounts. Seems to me a loose tranny will break engine mounts.

Well, looks like im changing the two engine mounts, and the 3 tranny mounts... The car will probably feel a lot better afterwards though!

Is the FSM the best guide to follow to change these, or is there a simpler way?

Thanks,

Ben

they're pretty self explanatory to install. But yes, the FSM will help you just fine.
