I have the same problem. It's been said on here that it may be the throwout bearing, pilot bearing, or tranny bearing. I've changed out the clutch, throwout and pilot bearings without alleviating the problem, so those probably aren't it. I think those bearings are at fault when the clutch is pushed in, so that leaves the tranny bearing, whatever that is.

Frankly speaking.....my first thought was to submit a reply and ask "is english your first language?", but backed off. Then read further and saw gotdatfiyah's remark and smiled a big smile.

Thanks for the post Trumper. Made my morning. Hope you get the problem fixed.....whatever it is.

On the Search engine on this site, I'd try just putting in something like TRANNY or TRANSMISSION or maybe CLUTCH. You'll get a lot of unrelated things but might make a good hit on one or two.

Yes - it's the tranny.
It might just be low on oil.
If you are a DIY guy - refill it with synthetic gear oil.
That stuff is close to magic in an RX-7 tranny.

Another point about tranny noise - If 4th is quieter then the other gears - then the noise is comming from the input gear or bearing (or the counter shaft bearings).
If 4th is noisy (which is rare) then it's the output shaft bearings.

Check out the transmission section in the manuals.
The link is in my sig below..

I've put redline synthetic in mine and the noise when in neutral is still there... just don't want trumper's hopes too high thinking syn fluid will fix everything, although it did smooth-out getting into the gears.

so i went and talked to some guy whos been working on and rebuilding trannys for 15 years. i took him for a ride to check out the noise(i have the exact same problem) and he said something about the 'pin' gear... or something like that(i wish i remembered exactly what he said). i told him it's prob the bearings as well. he said it could be that too. the guy wanted to charge me about $600 just to replace the damn bearings. and even MORE to replace the 'pin' gear(uhh, i think he said 'pin')

but anyhoo, if i were you guys i would save your money and just rebuild the thing. that's what i'm gonna do. there is one company in the northwest(washington?) that'll rebuild them for $395...

who are they? i forgot...

but back to the topic. just rebuild it. don't waste anymore money on these trannys. besides. i don't think just because the bearings are shot it means your tranny is dead. it'll last a few more months...

i hope.

RX-7 transmissions can be had from the wrecking yard for 75 to 100 bucks in Texas. Chump change. Some even work good.

I bought a tranny for $150 from a junk yard, I paid a little extra because the guy said it only had 67000 miles on it. Must of been hard miles because after reeding on this site seems it has bad synchros, but I am MOBILE. Thinking of rebuilding the old tranny at a later date. Power upgrades first. Sorry to all the old PROS for a useless post. I was just hoping for a easy quick fix and after a couple hours of reading urelated, but interesting posts was hoping for short cut to test driving my new Rx-7. In future I will be sure to take more time with punctuation, I didn't realize I was being graded. Thanks to all who replied kindly. By the way I have read worse post than mine with a lot less ridicule!

So next problem was exhaust. I cut off all cats and welded in a cheap 2 1/2 in truck muffler. *** sounding loud going to add cherry bomb in rear to try and sweaten the sound. Question? I read not a problem with a s5 but I have a s4! Is this the time I need to worry a 5th and 6th ports? Any dangers? Please be kind I am kinda clueless and don't always have time to read for 2 hours in old threads that you could answer in 30 seconds. If you all notice I do read and reply in this forum.

Yes, being that you have an s4, your ports will likely not open. You need to either find a way to rig them open all the time (suffer in idle and low end torque but quick and easy), or a working system to open and close them normally.
