Cheap presilencers?

I am looking to see if anyone knows where you can get some pretty cheap presilencers. Maybe have some used ones or something? Thanks. If not o well, will just be very very loud.

The Racing Beat ones are more durable, but Rotary Performance has the least expensive ones that at least won't self-destruct under the heat of a rotary. You can get a single, 2.5-inch bolt-on race pipe with presilencer for about $150-160. Or, if you just want a couple to fab into a more complicated system (true dual exhaust, or whatever), then you could simply buy a couple of the $75 2-inch deals for the 1st gen -- two small ones should flow fine for a dual system. Otherwise, if you really want a RB setup...good luck. You'll just have to find someone with a used one to sell. I got really lucky and picked up a new Racing Beat DP/PS on ebay for $102.50

Ya I might get 2 of the 1st gen ones then. I am getting the dual-outlet modified header & was going to try to find some cheaper presilencers than Mazdatrix's 130 1st gen ones. Maybe I will go with no presilencers & just add them later. Thanks.

Right there with you...

I swear, we have the exact same intent and thought pattern, Ryde_or_Die.

I am trying to do the same thing (fabricate the true dual without the Mazdatrix price tag), and just this morning figured I may as well just lose the presilencers. I'm wondering what the noise difference would be or if it's just too horrendous for the street. Hella cheap since the only pieces needed would be their header and a couple mufflers, then have a shop bend some pipe. I like this idea, a lot.

Anyone out there running a dual setup with no presilencers (but with mufflers)?

Presilencers don't really reduce the volume but do wonders for the tone. Without them, the car will sound like a chainsaw on crack. Personally, I can't stand the sound, nor the humiliation of it all. With a presilencer, however, the tone gets much deeper and manly Racing Beat presilencers are worth every penny, IMO (they are built like tanks and sound awsome). This is the one Mazdatrix sells. Rotary Performance, as I said, has a less-expensive option that will withstand the rotary heat. Lighter, aluminized steel, and only a fraction of the RB cost. But, you get what you pay for.

I'm currently building a project car on a fixed budget. It is a peripheral port 13B with Weber IDA. I'm now working on the exhaust. I'd love to use the Racing Beat PS (I use one on my GTUs and love it!), but the budget mandates a more affordable alternative. So, Ari will be sending me a pair of the 2.5-inch cores. I would never even consider running without a presilencer even on a race car -- my sanity is too precious to waste.

Are you running the RP presilencer with the stock header and a downpipe or are you running it with an aftermarket header?

I had a pipe in my GTU, and it sounded like ***. I don't want my convertible to sound like that, but I want it to make a little more noise than it does now, but I want it to sound GOOD.

Actually, I'm using it with a downpipe off the stock manifold, with the stock cat back. Sounds great, nice power gain (+22rwhp on my last dyno session). Torque curve is table-top flat from 3-7K.

I would hope that it would sound really nice with my Racing Beat cat-back. Even with the stock manifold and cats it sounds good, but it doesn't make any more noise than the stock mufflers, just has a better tone.

I still have to decide what I'm going to do with this car. I like it, but I really want an '89 GTUs. I want to stay n/a, and I have acquired enough knowledge to make an n/a very quick for what it is, but the convertible is just too heavy.

I have a pair of Edelbrock stainless/ceramic RPM mufflers, which are straight through, and damn loud. The car sounds much better with a gutted cat than with the RP pre-scilencer. I hate the way it sounds. It is a louvered muffler, and I don't like the way those work, it gives it a very sharp tone. Use a Racing beat or even a borla sportsman or something.
Keep in mind headers are much louder and more "crack"ish than the stock manifold.

Think i am going with no presilencers for now or maybe I will wait till I have the money for the silencers. I don't know. I don't want it too loud, well actually don't want it sounding like ****.

I just got a good deal on a used Mindtrain header with street adapter that I put on with my 2-1/2" single catback with turbo muffler. Nice deep tone with only a small increase in volume. Definitely added some low-end grunt and feels a lot freer on the top end.

Are you building a GRM 2002 project car? Your the one that entered an RX-7 in the GRM 2001 right?

Yeah, I've heard that the Mindtrain header/presilencer was definitely the way to go if you've got a few bucks sitting around.

Wow, that's a great deal considering what they cost brand new.
