Apparently the drop in k&n filter flows just as well as their cone, and thats only 50 bucks. I went with a cheap adapter plate from ebay and an autozone cone filter, total: $25

Autozone intake?
Are you refering to that air intake kit from autozone with that cheap lookin sponge filter? I saw that there. i was also wondering what would have to be taken off to put on an intake. And sorry if Im new to this but what does everybody mean by the "cone", I thought intake just consisted of a tube with a filter at the end.???

Ok, the "cone " filter i got from autozone was made by some rice company called SPECTRE or something to that effect. It looks about the same as the k and n, maybe a bit longer. They told me that i could use k&n chemicals on it the same as u would on a k&n brand one, and it appears to be made of cotton gauze.
Ok man, heres what you gotta do:
Take out the big box that holds the stock filter, just undo the 3 bolts that hold it in the car, undo the little rubber hose going from the intake hose to that metal pipe that goes to the acv, and undo the hose clamp holding the intake hose to the intake elbow piece. Oh, undo the airflow sensor line too(it has a little metal clip, use a screwdriver and dont loose the metal part). Now you can pull the air box and intake hose out. Clean up the hose part if u like, then take the airbox off of the airflow meter with the 4 bolts. All bolts should be 10 mm. Put on that adaper plate so that the cone intake(which is circular, needs to slide onto the adapter plate piece. Next slide on the cone and tighten it on with a hose clamp. You will also need a breather filter for the airpump intake. I got a matching on from the same company at autozone for like 3 bucks, makes a sweet sound too After all that is put back together, put it back in, same way u took out. You'll
need some kind of bracket to hold it up so it doesnt flop around too. Dont forget to hook the airflow sensor back up and make sure all the joints are tight so they dont leak. I think thats about it, anything i missed?

I got a Hiper Industries cone filter and plate adapter off of Ebay for about 27 bucks including shipping. It's made out of the same stuff as the K/N, and the guy that I bought it from had a chart that showed CFM, and the Hiper was almost as good as the K/N.
