CHEAP Cold Air Intake......Interested?
Ok, I've seen the checkpoint CAI, and don't get me wrong, it's nice. Then again who would want to pay that much?
Within a month or two I can design and produce, better quality, better looking, and cheaper priced CAI's. If anyone is interested please post and let me know. These will be professionally chromed and come with a K&N filter, unless you guys would want something
else?....powdercoated mabey?
So please give me some input to see what everyone wants out there.
P.S. - I know I sound like I'm full of myself, but I honestly fell that I can make something much better.

I could give out a few, but remember, there not even done yet!
You guys must have more input than that.
This will be a great product if it's built around our need's.

I'm down. I live up the street from Checkpoint and it's a nice unit but when they quoted me 450 something installed I kinda freaked :-)
Something else I am interested in is a pipe that would replace the stock rubber hose before it connects to the air filter..

i think I'd like a powdercoated one better. Also there might be issues with where it'll fit. A true CAI might need cutting that people wouldn't be willing to do, so you'd be loosing money making the first couple that you wouldn't be able to make back from selling alot. Also, any plans of making a TID? That's what I'd rather have, since my intake isn't bad, but my TID is looking a little rough, and I don't want to make another, cause I don't have time to measure and have it bent and everything. In any case, I've already got my intake and TID for now, so good luck with your project here, and i might have to convert to a newer model depending on looks/pricing/fit/etc. And of course, thanks for stepping up to bat and trying to mass produce (if it can be considered that) some parts for the good old FC

Oh and about your new intake, make it. Make it high quality. Charge a reasonable price. People will buy it.

The thing is reasonably priced, because Checkpoint must be nuts. You will definitely get buys from almost all the 2nd geners if you don't ask for too much, since its gonna be buyiong in masses you'll get to make money anyways. Ill be a potential buyer, i'd just rather be a tester, and see the price. Count me in as part of the team anytime.

I still need to decide on the material. But I think I will be able to have them in both chrome and powdercoated finishes(multiple colors).
Price will for sure be waaay less than $450.00!!!!!
I need some more time to plan all the rest of the project
but it will get done.
Also, keep the ideas coming...and I will start considering some stuff for you turbo guys.
Thanks again,
Patrick

I'm sure this has been mentioned but a dyno chart comparing this intake to stock would be great!! Preferably on a car with a complete exhaust as well as most of us are equipped already. I'm sure a 20 hp increase is as unlikely as getting struck by lightning but I'm sure that everyone would be curious to know what kind of increase a really well made CAI provides, especially with a high asking price. Then again, if it is that good of a unit and manages to supply a nice gain I'm sure people will pay the money. Sure, everyone has been asking for a high quality product and yours looks terrific...but then again in order to compete with the big boys at higher asking prices you need to go above and beyond which means dyno proof...

i'd definetly be interested, if reasonable enough. chrome or powdercoated, both sound good
dyno proof sounds good to me too
Thanks again for stepping up to bat and taking this into your own hands.

Get rid of the tube from the elbow to the AFM, locate it where it'll pull in a lot of air (maybe ram-air effect), keep it reasonably prices and the look non-ricey; and everyone and their brother will want one.

Yes, I was planing on eliminating the plastic tube from the manifold to the MAF, and from there it would be a single cold air tube.
And as for the powdercoating colors, I was thinking White, Blue, Black, and Red. What do you guys think?
Oh yeah, would most of you like a K&N filter? Or another brand?

Where do you intend to route the piping? I have a cold air I made but it was possible cuz I dont have any headlight motors in the way on the other side of the "wall" there. Will holes need to be cut, if so where? Short of the welding, what makes your product more possible for you to produce that the average guy making stuff in the driveway? Good luck with it!
