I would be interested provided the price is low enough. i think the best place for a cai is in the front "mouth" area like where the airflow to the radiator is. that should have constant pressure at any speed.

well, rotary revolution to give you a hand on the CAI. since i didn't want to cut the body up at first (this will only work for those with an e-fan) what you can do is make brackets that move the radiator an inch or 2 back, then make a cover for the area so that you keep the air flowing to the radiator. then cut a hole in the right side of the "shroud" for the tubing and then just stick a filter on the end of it. i'd draw a pic but i'm not to good with paint. if you want one though i'll try to make one.

just an idea

I would be willing to cut the car for a CAI, no worries for me. Powdercoated red would be tight.

I want one. It looks good. Chrome or powder tipped. And I've already posted, but I just want to get my point accross.

I don't klnow about cutting a hole in my car.
depending on how it looks, the price, and the significant increase in power. I would be interested. For now has anybody produce a decent looking short intake. I am really disqusted with the stock black tubing. Oh and to the guy who started this tread (I forgot your name) thanks for bringing your ideas up to the table and tring to do good for the rotary community. Lates Matt22

i know this sounds like a REALLY dumb question, but what actually makes it a "Cold Air" intake? the piping? because if thats the case, i am also planning on making an intake, and if all i have to do is make that pipe to be able to bend around and sit in the right position from the MAF sensor then i believe i can make them, and it will cost me VERY little, therefore i can sell it for VERY little, i just need to know how to do it, and i'll get right on it, with making them...can someone explain what/how it needs to be setup to me?

thanks

A cold air intake is basicaly an intake that instead of sucking in hot air from the engine bay (like all after market intakes will do if you just put them right on the front of the MAF sensor. A cold air intake has to route air from outside of the car somewhere... it seems to me that looking at the flow charts for our car the best place would be right behind the gril in the lower bumper

The reason this is good is in theory with a 10 degree F drop in intake temp, the air will be denser leaving you with about 1% improved performance.... if you assume the air under the hood is 130 degrees F and the air outside the car is 80 degrees F, then you are dropping the temp 50 degress, which *should* give you a 5% performance boost. More might even be possible, since right near the grill in the front bumper is a very high pressure area (highest on the car), so there might even be a little bit of a ram air effect at high speeds

I hope you can just check this out. I would love to just have a powdercoated metal pipe to replace the rubber hose from the TB to air flow meter.

I don't care so much about the damn CAI because the increase in performance is slim, the amount of work and cutting to make it work is a lot, and you end up with a car that will never be truly stock again. Not like my cars could be stock again anyways.

It's hard to put one in our cars. Cutting is most likey the only way.

I would like a pipe from the manifold to filter. I would assume it would make the car a little better since your replacing a crappy plastic tube with a smooth metal pipe.
Maybe with some heat shielding on it to shield from the exhaust manifold.

Depending on the price I would buy a CAI. Almost any RX7 owner is used to compromising when it comes to putting something on. Since we usually have to make stuff ourselves.

How's the progress on the CAI? And for those that were talking about the AFM S-hose I know a great mechanic that sells polished aluminum ones by email got a pic of mine if anyone is interested, its like 135 if I remember correctly. Oh and it's 3" only for turbo cars though.
