I have been thinking about this alot and cutting will most likely have to be done....This causes a serious problem for most of us, either not wanting to cut up our car's, or not having the tools to do so.

I hate to say it, but I don't think this will sell if you have to cut your car up?(or am I wrong?)

But never the less I still have alot of other very good options I can pursue. How about a fiberglass cold air headlight cover simalar to mariah's? I might be able to make a Intake "Kit" that could include the headlight cover, a nice air-box, and a powder-coated intake tube (with optional filter) to replace the one between the TB and MAF.

I'm not bitching out here, I just think it would be much more economical for both you guys and me to find other ways to offer a "cold-air-intake".

So once again what do ya think? If I made that "kit" or one similar to it would it sell?

Thanks,
Patrick

I figure, for YOU a CAI would be more cost-effective than an airbox setup. For a CAI all you'd have to do is bend some pipe. For an "intake kit" there's a lot more fabrication involved. And you know how it is; cost for you, is cost for US.

I vote make a CAI, if someone wants an intake kit, they can go thru mariah. (because it doesn't cost $350)

BTW; I don't know if this is just some bull I heard, but... I was told NOT to use K&N Filters on CAI's, due to the size of the "holes" in the filter (which allows 2x more air) it can suck water faster than a dehydrated camel. Is there merit to this? Or just someone trying to sound smart?

And no, the headlight duct is pretty much useless with the lights up.

Ok, I still think I can make a "kit" for less than 350.
But If I were to just sell the CAI headlight covers for a good price(fiberglass), would anyone buy one?
I know for sure that I can make these with relative ease.

And I still would like to know if anyone would be willing to cut a hole in there car for a CAI? Or is it not worth it?

Where do you plan on having the hole cut out???? If it's were the wiper fluid tank is, then i wouldn't mind cutting a hole there. Near the radiator might be a little bit tricky. But i would have to see how it would be. But im defenetly interested in a CAI.

I was considering the wiper fluid tank area, but is the wiper fluid somthing you would be able to give up?( I know I use mine very often)

Also I just talked to my Uncle that owns a fiberglass manufacturing campany in Mexico and he agreed to help me with the CAI headlight cover...and mabey a hood!

im pretty interested in both CAI or headlight cover....
why don't u actually make a test car with a CAI and have some pictures on where u cut the holes.....
then we can really say if we want the CAI or not...

id like a CAI, the whole headlight cover is BS, the hole wouldnt work over like 20 mph when the air starts to form very high and low pressure areas, if u look at the chart of the RX-7's flow patterns, youll see that the frontal "mouth" area recieves tons of air, so i would suggest locating a CAI in that area

Crome sux for clamping rubber hoses to it. Chrome is way too slippery.

I'd love to see a high quality CAI as well. Depends just on how much cutting would be required; I wouldn't mind cutting a little bit for sweet CAI. When do you think this can be finished and any word on price?

yeah, I wouldnt mind cutting a little bit if it were worth it. If the headlight kit is pointless with the lights up, then I dont want it, I like to run at night too. (and M5150 was right, that does become a low pressure area) So I say stick with the CAI, and the minimal amount of cutting. Good Luck

Ok, I think I'm still going to make the CAI headlight cover for myself anyway and I'm sure I could sell a few. But about the CAI, it will take some time and money, I have a very busy day with work, school, and all that other crap thats no fun. This is on the top of my "free time" list though, and I will get a estimated price when I I finally decide on all of the materials I will use.

I'll be sure to keep posting will updates.

And I could still use more suggestions from you guys.
(will you mind cutting, powdercoating colors, etc.)

Thanks again,
Patrick

Cutting- Like I said, I dont mind, if its kept as minimal as possible

Powdercoating Colors- White, Black, Blue, Red, Yellow, Green, Orange...simple colors. At least the first 4. Most of us arent as interested in colors as we are performance so I would try to compare stock to after the CAI, dyno sheet is good

Good Luck

I thought about this during school....

Things to think on. There are 2 Tubes coming from the BAC, and the ACV. Some people don't have them. So, you kindof have to cater for people with and without them.

Also, about the cutting. I doubt many people would mind cutting, but how about a washer relocation kit to come along with the CAI?? Just some thoughts from a sleepy college kid.

If you are willing to cut a whole above the washer res., all you need is one 90 degree bend and a filter and coupler to complete the kit.
