ok its actually pretty simple, the plastic shroud that surrounds your boot, grab that and give it some working around the edges, it will take a little bit of tugging to get it off, to take off the shift ****, just give it a hard turn, and it will break free, then you can loosen the bottom "nut" that holds it in place. then just unscrew the **** and its done.

Shift **** should screw off with a little elbow grease. You could try a rubber oil filter wrench.
As for the shift boot, there's 4 snaps under the plastic surround around the boot. Pry up carefully and it slides right off (as long as you have the **** off). Underneath there are some screws and some locking washers that only go one way onto plastic *****. You can take those off without breaking the ***** if you take your time and bend one of the prongs out of the way before you pull off.
I'm decent at design and sewing and I made my own shift boot and E-brake boot. (sorry no patterns) at it turned out pretty nice. I can get a picture of it tomorrow.
