ok its actually pretty simple, the plastic shroud that surrounds your boot, grab that and give it some working around the edges, it will take a little bit of tugging to get it off, to take off the shift knob, just give it a hard turn, and it will break free, then you can loosen the bottom "nut" that holds it in place. then just unscrew the knob and its done.

Shift knob should screw off with a little elbow grease. You could try a rubber oil filter wrench.

As for the shift boot, there's 4 snaps under the plastic surround around the boot. Pry up carefully and it slides right off (as long as you have the knob off). Underneath there are some screws and some locking washers that only go one way onto plastic knobs. You can take those off without breaking the knobs if you take your time and bend one of the prongs out of the way before you pull off.

I'm decent at design and sewing and I made my own shift boot and E-brake boot. (sorry no patterns) at it turned out pretty nice. I can get a picture of it tomorrow.

The fitting just below the shift knob is a "jam" nut. Use a 22mm wrench to turn it clockwise. As soon as you break the jam nut free, the shift knob will easily turn off counter clockwise.
