noob lol

atleast you figured it out on your own. spend a little more time using the forum's search function and you probably won't need to make threads like these.

IMO if your gonna make your sunroof useless and put a stationary piece of cf there, you might as well just rip the whole assemly out and weld a piece of metal over the hole. Your car gets lighter and your wallet stays heavier. Now a replacement for the stock sunroof panel that keeps it functional might be worth some money.

I don't think anyone was stating that they were going to put in a stationary piece? The speed machine performance piece is a stock replacement but in CF and will still function properly as a sunroof.

However, if you did want to go the route of removing everything (like I will some day) of course you'd want to rip out the whole assembly, tracks, motor, etc. That's a good chunk of weight that can be taken out. Best bet instead of just welding a sheet of metal over it, though, is to put something like lexan in its place that will sit flush with the roof. That way it can still look nice rather than having just a piece of metal there. Dave from speed machine also said he's going to be putting the CF sunroof in with no tracks/motor/etc and have it be stationary, and when he does he was going to go through what needs to be done for it. Basically it'd just be replacing the tracks with a custom bracket.

I also don't think the CF sunroof while leaving it functional will make much of a difference. The stock sunroof is relatively light, so replacing it with CF might save something like 3 lbs at most, at least I'd think. Seems to me if you're leaving in the motor and tracks and junk and still using the sunroof it'd be more for aesthetics, kinda expensive for just a slab of CF on your roof. Oh well, my .02
