Cat Replacment

Hey,
I am new to the RX7 world, but I am excited to learn. I just got an 87 GXL a few months ago and the previous owner had put on a cone and then a 4in hard pipe intake after that, also a full exhaust but with a gutted cat. I have 2 questions. First I am having idle problems and was wondering if putting my stock intake on would help. Second I know that a gutted cat often flows worse then a strait pipe so I was wondering what I should do about finding a resonator or if I will melt one out.

Thank you for your time.

cork sport and rx7.com have everything you need as far as exhaust pieces.
