car won't work when cold
it starts fine but i can't drive it until it's fully warmed up. if i hit the gas it revs to about 4000 then cuts out and drops down to 1500 then goes back up to 3500 and keeps doing that. eventually it get to where i can press the gas a little and rev it up then after a while it drives fine. it only does this when i start it some times, not all the time. it's really annoying since i have to wait 10 minutes before i can go anywhere. so how do i fix this?

I assume you have a 2nd gen. When the engine is cold the computer will speed up the idle but it should only be for less than a minute. What do you mean you CAN'T drive it? Does it have a massive lack of power, stumbling, hesitation, or what? Also, any rotary engine should be BABIED until the engine is fully warmed up. As in DO NOT EXCEED 3500 RPM. Since the rotor housings are aluminum and the side housings are iron, the expansion rates are different. If the car is run hard while it is cold, you can easily damage it.

by i can't drive it i mean i can't drive it, it won't let me open the throttle enough to drive the car without losing all power and dropping back to idle. it just started doing this. even if i put the pedal to the floor it'll only rev to 3500 rpm then sputter and drop back to idle. the temp has to be all the way up before it starts working right, like at least 1/2 way up the gauge before i can drive it.
BTW it's an 86 GXL.

i live in canada
same thing with me.. i have to start it and then hold the gas for a bit until it can hold an idle.. then i let it warm up until the temerature gauge moves a bit. and then when im driving it i dont push it past 2000-3000 rpms until its fully warmed up.

Annoying?  Oh boy, maybe we should let these people blow their cars up... :P
The cold start thermo wax system in the throttle body is designed to prevent the double seconday throttle plates from opening until the engine is fully warmed up.  This is preventing full power when it's cold...

INSTRUCTIONS 2 JPG: Its in the FREE factory manuals athttp://www.iluvmyrx7.com/Technical_Info/Service_Manual/_88_Service_Manual/_88_service_manual.htm If your setting this with the engine running, chunk the intercoooler and buy some pvc at the HOME DEPOT for three bucks, elbows also, and use the pvc in lieu of the intercooler so you have ready access to the screws etc. Do the tps while you're there. Hot engine. One volt on green wire with red stripe. EDIT: http://www.iluvmyrx7.com/Technical_I...ice_manual.htm
