car wont start...clicking?

I'm having a little trouble with my 7. I was hoping that someone here has experienced this problem before and knows whats up. So here goes.

Car won't start. Doesnt turn over. This just started, the car was fine yesterday. Now it just makes an very loud VERY rapid clicking noise when ever I turn the key. I took the battery to have it tested. Batteries good. I don't know what to check next. I don't want to go through a million things to test so if someone had this problem before please let me know!

Through a search, some people have mentioned the started among a few other things. This thread looks promising, though.

You could clean all the battery cables. Also check the connection at the starter. Clean it then Use some dielectric grease.

RotaryResurection has a great write-up on how to make your own custom cables.

I had this problem on my 91. I hit a speed bump at the mall too fast (young and dumb 10 years ago) I didn't think anything of it until I came out of the mall later and it wouldn't start. Turned out that the starter lead had a bad connection and the jolt of the speed bump was enough to knock it just loose enough that it barely had any connection at all.
Of course I learned this AFTER I shelled out $60 for a new battery when jumping it didn't help.

dennis_blackstone...what post are you referring too?

Thanks for everyones suggestions. I will give them all a try tomorrow. Ibrakestuff, what do you mean try jumpers? Do you mean make a direction connection to the starter or do you mean try jumping the car? 'Cause I tried jumping the car and that didnt work.

My car once didn't start after I turned it off. I don't know if we have the same problem, but when it doesn't start for me, I just hold the key as if starting the car, and step on the clutch repeatedly until the engine turns.

Had somthing similar with my dads fb. It was a bad starter solenoid. Check the cheap stuff like electrical connections before buying new parts.

Update. ITS STILL NOT WORKING!
So after not working on it for 1 day, it tried to start today. It turned over for a bit and then smelled and smoked (smelled like oil)....a lot. So it turned over for a while then started clicking again. WHAT THE HECK!

UPDATE on my Update
Got it working. I guess I flooded it at some point, so I had my friend push me around for about 1.5 (got a lot of weird looks) before it finally started it up.

so yeah, it was just flooded.

That's good. A lot of times that happens, or its one of the battery cables. I need to replace my pos battery terminal cable because it has a bad connection.
