Car will not let me put gas in

As the title states, when I'm at a gas station, I try to pump the gas in but it shuts off, as if my tank is full. When I need gas, I need to press it over and over again to get a little bit at a time. I took the gas filler neck (just the top metal part at the door) off, and the little tube is not blocked. Any help would be great

Try not shoving the gas nozzle down its throat so hard. pull the nozzle back a little and you shouldnt have a problem hozing her down.

Did you try a different gas station? I went to my local Shell to fill up my G35 this week and it wouldnt fill past 3/4 full. I believe the dispenser mechanically measures the back pressure to pop-off and so they can behave inconsistently.

If that's not the case I would trace the vent tube to the tank and if necessary use an air compressor to blow it out (preferably out so any debris doesnt go into the fuel tank).

The fuel tank is easy to access from the trunk in verts though I dont know if the fuel filler pipes are; we've only worked on the fuel pump. Check section 04a of the FSM starting on page F1-51.

Good luck!

I tried two different stations. I shoved it, tried lifting methods, and even tried filling it by pushing the flap up just a little so air can come out. It still stops. I will try to drop the tank today

Okay, so I dropped the tank today. When let it down, the large filler hose was hooked on real tight, but the relief line slid right off. I buttoned everything back up and hopefully when I go get gas, that line was the issue.

BTW the great news is that my fuel gauge wasn't working. After this job, it does now. WOOHOO!!

Pull the charcoal canister, check if its filled with liquid gas, that'll be your problem.
