Car using a lot of clutch fluid. What to check.

It has gone from maximum to minimum in about two weeks. What do I check? I do not see any leaking fluid around the resivuor or the clutch line. WHat usually causes this?

Probably the slave cylinder. At least that's what it was on my capri...

either the slave cylinder or the clutch has miraculously been destroyed over the past 2 weeks.

Look down at the slave, like Viper said. If you don't know where it is, just follow the line coming out of the master cylinder. The slave is on top of the bell housing, on the driver's side. If that's dry, then it must be leaking out the back of the master cyl and into the interior of the car, above your left leg. Check the carpet for wetness.

Is that the thing under the resivuor? I am sure my clutch is still intact.

The fluid is going somewhere.
If you can't see it at the master-hose-slave in front of the firewall, it's favorite hiding place is to leak past the master piston cup, down the inside of the firewall and soak into the carpet underpad.

My car had a huge air pocket in there that caused the clutch pedal to just die once I finally got it started. I just filled it up, pumped it real good, checked for leaks and pushed it back home.

Definitly a leak somewhere, either at the master or slave cylinder. The master can leak inside the car, so be sure to check under the dash near the pedal. The slave can leak in such a way that it flows down the tranny and you never see it. Either way, you will need to replace both. A good slave will kill a bad master, and vice versa.

Ok in removing my rat's nest I found a leak on my slave cylinder. I would like to replace it and the clutch line aswell. I have a victoria british ltd catalog that has the new cylinder for 29.99 the shipping would be about 9.00 dollars. mazdatrix has the cylinder for 47.xx dollars. Is there any other place that has them cheaper?? Should I try checking autozone and the like?

i replaced the slave in my car thinking that was my problem. . .but it was the tranny. . .if you need a slave cyl let me know... you can have it for whatever shipping costs. Its less than a year old and the guy i bought the car from hardly drove on it.

I was reading the haynes and the removal and re-installation of the slave cylinder seems really simple: disconnect the line, unbolt the old one, put new one in and make sure it is on correctly, put line on, bleed, done. Is that the way it goes or do I need something else? How would I get rid of all the old fluid? It looks pretty dirty and I don't think I want to use it with the one I am getting. How much fluid will the whole system take?

Shouldnt take more than 200ml. Since you will have everything apart, siphon the MC then pump the clutch a few times to push whatever is left in the hard lines out. You could always put in a bit more fluid then pump that out if you wanted.

Well you are using metric measurements and I use standard US ones so I don't know either. I will buy one of the big ones before doing it though just to be sure. I don't know if my mom would like brake fluid on her turkey baster though. I guess I can buy one at the H-E-B
