car shaking at idle not while driving
car shaking at idle not while driving
ok heres my next problem with this thing. this is hard to explain so im going to do the best i can
87 na with 180k original miles
power is all there, no smoke, nothing car runs and drives fine
heres the issue im having. if i drive it around town its fine now if i run from light to light meaning going through the gears and driving the car hard. the car does not shake as it is moving. what happens is it will shake at a stop in idle for awhile AFTER i have been driving hard. if i turn the car off for the night it will be back to normal the next day. ppl have said motor mounts, tranny mounts, egr, injectors, vacuumleak. but alot of that can be ruled out because if it where motor or tranny mounts the car would shake all the time. also my idle is crisp at 750 800 which is normal. any ideas? i dont want to drive a car that shakes like this.

While the engine is idling erratically, spray some engine starter fluid sparingly around the intake piping after the AFM and at various points where vacuum lines are located. If the idle smoothes out, you have a vacuum or air leak. Track it down and replace the offending hose or tighten the clamps, whatever it needs.

Perhaps a vacuum leak that only opens up when the engine is hot...
Check the O2 voltage when it idles fine, and when it is idling rough. It should be rich (more than 0.45 volts) at idle. If it is a vacuum leak causing the rough idle, you should see a lean condition (less than 0.45 volts) when it is idling rough.

I had the same problem (when mine ran). I couldn't really feel it that much but when I popped the hood and watched it idle, it would do some serious dancing even without hard driving.
