By useing an aftermarket EMS such as the Microtech LT-8 I have the ability to use a Labtop PC in my Rx-7. It would allows fine tuning for fuel maps, timing and air fuel ratio's to list a few... Seeing that the car is not driven on a daily basis I find no reason to keep the computer hooked up to the EMS at all times. But I sure to get asked a whole lot when people see the labtop...

lol, what is a carputer

Anyways I have a laptop in mine to data log with my wideband o2 sensor. The battery in the laptop is bad so I got the cigarette lighter to work and ordered one of those 12volt dc to ac converters to plug the laptop in and then have the wire going up from the cpu to the glovebox and when I need to datalog I just open the glove box and plug in the connection. I want to get a laptop holder but they are like 200 bucks.

You guys really dont know what a carputer is?
Generaly its a mini ITX based integrated mainboard with a touchscreen in dash lcd. I have built many of these. Mostly around the VIA mini ITX mainboard (due to their small form factor) and the lilyput 7" touchscreen lcd, which I mold into the dash. I havent done it to the FC yet due to the fact I have no point..... and fitting 2k+ technology in a 15yr old car is just kinda odd to me.

lol, carputers are the next best thing for cars.

The lowdown:
By using a 7inch vga touchscreen and a ultra slim pc, you can watch dvs, listen to mp3s, gps, surf the net, and use your pc in your car. You can make your own main menu sort of like a kiosk. Also you can connect it to your cars cpu.

there is a guy that has one of these in his fc I think in the interior/exterior section. It really didn't look like it took that much skill basically just put a computer in the storage bins and a converter to plug the computer into and a monitor extender to plug the monitor into and then a touch screen monitor. Very cool though cause I haven't seen anyone else do this in an fc.

I'm planning on installing one when I have extra money. Mainly gonna use it for GPS and MP3s i believe. Seeing that i drive around to random places a lot the GPS would be of much use to me, easier than printing out maps and directions from mapquest or soemthing of the sort everytime.

I am trying to find a way to mount a 7inch monitor in the glove compartment, so it will be hidden when it is not in use. Most likely i will add sliders and a hinge so it will fold down and go in.

I think we all need PCs in our cars, so when we are racing, and using our NAWWSS our car will warn us with messages like "Danger to Manifold!!" right before our floor board falls out from under the car.

It begs the question: what the *hell* was Brian thinking by cutting a hole in the floor of his car and putting in diamond plate?

I'm thinking of going with a Mac setup with the new Mac Mini--much more secure OS, nicer GUI, and with the next version of OSX additional customization.

There's no known means that I'm aware of at this time. Were it a standalone like a Haltech, there's PC software that'll connect to the ECU via a serial cable.

Unfortunately, there's no ECU software for Macintosh, let alone OSX, for OBDII or aftermarket.

I've been running one as an MP3 player in my RX-7 since late 1999.

http://www.aaroncake.net/projects/mp3player.htm

Also, I'm trying to figure out where to move this to, because it really doesn't apply directly to FCs...

Hopefully a buddy of mine is going to build me a mini-tower with a small, dash-mounted lcd screen for pretty cheap. I thought it would be cool to be able to tune my Haltech, use the Haltech data screen to check engine vitals, and play mp3's. Hopefully I can do all this for <$700 since I won't need anything crazy. Just a decent processor and a little storage for datalogs, software for my mp3 player, etc.
