Car goes into safe (limp) mode on positive boost

I am having trouble with car cutting out or possible going into limp mode when applying throttle under load. It seems to be related with the boost. RX7 fc turbo (manual)

I've noticed that it cuts the throttle (goes into safe mode) as soon as the boost reaches zero (I have a boost gauge installed). It will not get above zero. I can drive the car as long as I keep the boost down, so very gently on the throttle. But as soon as I apply throttle and the boost nears positive it cuts out. I suspect its something to do with this?

S4? S5? S5 has error codes you need to check. S4 its more likely to be something mechanical

Hi,
Its 1991 RX7 Turbo II (2) FC, so that would make it S4 - right?
No warning lights on the dash.

1985-1988 = S4
1989-1991 = S5

S5 needs to have the error codes checked, and since there is no check engine light, you need an LED in the diagnostic port under the hood.

Sorry this might be trivial but I am not quite sure how to do that. There is a guy on youtube that has a blinking check engine light on the dash. I dont have an engine light on my warning cluster dash, so how can I check for codes?

Hi,
So, I've made a light test from two wires and a spare car light (I've tested it and it is working if connected to the battery). I connect it to the single port next to the front headlight near the battery and then connect the other end to the negative battery. However I get no lights when I turn the ignition to its first position (car electronics on with engine off). Am I doing it wrong?

Thanks, but I don't seem to have a check engine light on the dash... Is this normal?

Oh, you've got a Euro spec car. That's probably the reason why. On US spec cars, the CEL is in the lower right hand corner next to the fuel pump icon. Also, it looks like some of the light bulbs in your idiot light cluster might be burnt out.

You might try reaching out to your friends down under on the Aus Rotary forum (AusRotary - AusRotary index). They might be able to help you.

sorry i didn't have a lot of time to type anything out, but you need to get some kind of LED and it goes in the diagnostic plug, then you ground the TEN pin (the other 1 pin plug) and turn the key on, engine off and the LED will flash the code(s)
the b/w wire is just switched power
