Car flooded for the first time tonight.

I had driven for about 20 minutes and stopped at a video store for about 30-40 minutes. When I went to start the car, I let off of the key a little to early. The car started to start, but then died. After that, it wouldn't even try to get any combustion. My car has done this before, but would always just stumble a few times, and then start right up. This time, it would just sit there and spin, but not fire.

Ended up having to pull the plugs, because it wouldn't start by just pulling the fuses. After that, it started right up on the 3rd try like nothing was wrong. Damn, RX-7's are finicky.

Hehe, while I was working on it, 2 different people asked me if I needed jumper cables. I thought that was pretty funny. Average Joe thinks jumper cables will start any car. One lady even gave me a towel she had in her car, even though I told her I had rags in my car. It was nice to see people try to lend their assistance.

Install a fuel cutoff switch, it helps in those type of situations

Oh and why did it take 30 mins to pick a movie

what year is your car?

I know for sure this works on S5's but it also works on my friends 87 TII, but if the car floods you put the gas pedal all the way down then try to crank the car.

I have always been told that that trick only works on S5s. But I've never tried it myself for that reason.

Try the fuse trick

When it floods..

1. Pop hood
2. Pull 2 EGI fuses from the fuse box by the shock tower (1 fuse is red, one green)
3. Crank for 10-20 seconds
4. Put fuses back in
5. Start

If that doesnt work , try again or hope its not something else!

GOod luck

My car is an 86 N/A, and I did pull the fuses first, but that didn't cut it. We'll see if the problem pops back up.

And it didn't take 30 minutes to get a movie. It was a movie/book store, and I was reading magazines. Man, every magazine seems to be in love with the Nissan 350Z.

When my car floods, I press the gas pedal to the floor and crank. Most of the time it works unless it flooded VERY badly. I have an s4.

I have a 88 TII and here is what u do and it works for all series

1. pull egi fuse
2. crank engine over while pushing the gas pedal down all the way for 10-20 second depending on how flooded
3. put the fuse in and go on your way

S5's might have different fuses etc but it works the same

hehe.. I was trying to start my '80 race car (12A carbed engine) and forgot that I pulled the distributor cap while it was sitting in the parking lot (so nobody would walk in and drive it away). I cranked that sucker a few times for a few minutes before I realized that I'm dumb. Put the distributor cap back on and it fired right up.. no flooding or anything.

if my car has a flood, I'll open the throttle for a little while, like 15-30 seconds while I get situated, fire up a cigarette or something, then try cranking again. That opens the intake and lets a little air in to dry it up, but it can't dry all the faces of the rotor, and the problem is probably worth tracking down. But it at least helps in some cases, and the fuse method has always worked for me, except once when I just rolled it and caught it in gear (manuals are REAL easy to start )
