Cant figure it out...any sugestions?

1988 Mazda RX7 TII

I am driving to work this morning when I notice that it feels like my clutch is slipping, BIG TIME. It jolts on decelaration but when I accelerate, it goes away until I am in 4th gear at 5 1/2 rpms. disappears again beyond 6 rpms. Shift to fifth and at 4 1/2 it starts but not as bad. It idles just fine. The wierd thing was, it didnt do it that much after it was warmed up, if at all. It seems to do it in the first 15 min of driving. I do warm her up for about 5 min before I drive. I dont store her in the cold cause here it gets way to cold and harder to start at 5 am. So I park her in my garage. I was thinking it may be my throw out bearing. Am I wrong? Any sugestions?

My first question is..... How old is the clutch??????

Its not the t-bearing.. its the clutch At 4.5K you are just entering the torque curve of the motor, and in 4th gear, the wind resistance is starting to really act on the car, makes perfect sense to me that the clutch would start slippin there.

Its a brand new rebuilt engine. So I decided I may as well change the clutch out too. That was in May. But why would it calm down after the engine is warmed up. Heat Expansion?

I'd guess a leaking rear main seal or burnt flywheel (did you surface the flywheel before putting it in?)

No i didnt surface the flywheel. I check underthe car and didnt see any leaks coming from the rear. I just ordered a brand new ACT setup (pressure plate, clutch, TOB, Aluminium Flywheel). Should I surface this flywheel before I put it in?

if its a new flywheel your putting in now, if you were reusing the old one then you would need to resurface it

If it is new, as long as there is no grease or oil at all on the pressure plate and flywheel, you should not need to surface it.

You did break it in slowly right??? No dropped clutch, or over slow release with high RPM??? If you glazed the friction plate, it typically slips in only the top gears (like 4th and 5th)

I have to slow release sometimes because the Garage I have is a double decker mechanical and the angle is to high so, in order to get it up the damn thing I have to slow release it. That maybe the problem. Great guys!! Thanks for the help
