If You Are Looking For A Simple Rebuild Or A Slight Port Job And A Rebuild I Can Refrence You To Someone If He Has The Time. He Helped Me Rebuild Mine And Gave Me A Nice Port Job And Out Of Pocket It Cost Under 150, That Is If You Dont Count The Copeous Amount Of Beer I Bought For He And I.

you do realize apex seals alone cost more than that?
garbage can rebuilds are just what they sound like.
**** sounds like a freaking scam... gasket kit alone costs $150 for a comprehensive rebuild. so you're saying he will do it all for some beer? where is this guy, i need to hire the ******!

I'm amazed at how many so called builders don't use new rotor housings, let along cheap things like new sideseals/cornerseals
I think they should be called engine cleaners, not rebuilders..

i'm an engine cleaner then.
we wouldn't be able to sell many engines to second gen owners with too many new parts. yes new rotor housings are nice but not in everyone's budget.
replacing just soft seals is rediculous though, apex seals are prone to failure so why reuse a ticking time bomb with it's fuse half gone?
i'm still boggled by his post, you can't even replace all the soft seals for $150, the coolant seals/gaskets/viton oil seals are well over $200 alone.

Well I hate to say it, but if they are cheaping out on that stuff, what else can't they afford to do right? Let me guess, reusing motor mounts, water hoses etc. Seems pretty obvious to me why people aren't making any real power, and blow engines left and right. Can't afford to pay to get it done right, you shouldn't be playing. I'm obviously refering to performance building. Those who just want a rebuild should get remans if they are on a budget, atleast those somtimes comes with new housings, and I'm pretty sure all new soft/hard seals.
I think that guy did the labor for $150/beer, the owner paid for the parts...
If not then LOL he got used seals and probably didn clean or do anything. You do get what you pay for.

forget it guys, i have dealt with guys on the 3rd gen section as well and they just don't listen to your opinion. though i will replace items when requested and obviously when i feel they should be replaced some people feel is it absolutely necessary to rebuild the whole car when doing a rebuild.. like everyone in the world wants to spend $15k on a rebuild for a car that is blue book valued at $2500 - now that just isn't realisitic now is it?

lol so true. There is a reason engines that are built right run better and make more power...
hell the fsm and most " racing " manuals/publications say to ALWAYS replace corner seals, i guess guys hangin out on the net building engines out of their mommas garage know better, LMFAO>>.
for those that say sideseals rarely need to be replaced; I bought an rx7 with a rebuild engine with 6k on it, when it was opened by turblown engineering the sideseal to corner seal clearance was .090"........ woot i love reusing **** like that

dwb87, where in IL are you located? There are a couple builders in the general area. A-Spec Tuning is in Schaumburg, IL and Banzai Racing is in Pierceton, IN. I think A-spec builds always use new housings unless the customer wants to reuse the old housings, if they are useable.

Try where I am haiving my engine built. The owners name is steve and the builders name is scott. Scott has over 12 years of rotary building experience and he has built over 2000 engines! I was going to go with malloy Mazda or atkins rotary but Both malloy and atkins didn't take the time to explain the actual building process to me like Steve the owner of rotary warehouse did. They have great prices and quality engines! Well that is just my 2 cents worth. They are building a great engine for me at a reasonable price for what I am having built. My engine has race seals and race springs, RW dowel pins, Vinton rotor and dowel pin O rings, teflon combustion O rings, 3 window bearings, performance eccentric shaft jets, race oil pump, race oil pressure relief valves, race port & polish, 3rd gen corner seal springs for $2,850.00 plus I had to pay for shipping too. I looked around and did some research and other builders couldn't compare to what I am having built at the price I am paying. I decided on them because the owner took the time to explain how they were going to build my engine step by step. I have called several times since I ordered my engine from them and there customer service can't be beat! My engine is being shipped to me this friday! Check them out it might be worth your while.
