Can someone post battery relocation pics?

In an older post RETed mentioned how he relocated the battery. I liked the idea of the marine box and angle brackets. Ted do you have any pics of this or instructions? I need to do this soon and i need some good detailed instructions on a battery relocation. I dont think any great instructions have been discussed on this issue.. but maybe i didnt use my search good enough. Thanks guys.

It's almost done.
I need to take pics of the wire routing down the driver's side sill and through the firewall, and that will complete the pics section.  Hopefully, I can get the write-up done by the end of the week!

Sorry, it would've been done if it weren't for the 20B-FC project.

Here's the initial write-up...
Just as a disclaimer, it's not complete!

We get them from K-Mart, but I noticed WalMart carries a similar box.
They are plastic battery boxes originally used for boats.
WalMart has them in the big battery rack display with all the batteries are located.
The KMart ones are located in the boating section.
I also bought them at Kragen in Nor Cal, so I bet all the Kragen / Schucks / Checkers should carry them also.
I think all the big auto parts chains stores should have them.

Thanks ted. I saw those at walmart. They are in the boating section at my ghetto walmart (very small).. they are plastic ones with a strap that holds the top on. So you drill through the bottom of it (the plastic) and bolt it to the L bracket.. and the L bracket into the metal of the chasis below the storage bin?

Updated...

I just need to take (and add) pics of the main power wire routing.
I bet you're all wondering how the wires are routed.
I should be able to do that by this weekend (damn 20B project is still slowing me down).

"2AWG" just means 2 gauge... AWG means "American Wire Gauge"

No problem

I've been thinking about doing the battery relocation as well, but if/when I do it I'd do the lightweight battery in addition to do the relocation.

Another note to add: use a gel cell battery. The thought of a normal lead/acid battery in the driver's compartment just scares me. Not only are they safer but they also wont eat the sheetmetal of your car.

Any particular reason there are TWO circuit breakers in your diagram, Ted? The one closest to the batter doesn't seem necessary, unless it's part of some sort of racing rule...Electrically, the only advantage is redundancy.

i used a hold down kit. i got it from autozone. i know its not the best way nut i drilled holes in the bottom of the floor. and the hold bolts have hooks on them. then i pushed them up threw the bottom of the car. for the cabling i used a jumper wire set the thicks i could find and used that for + and -. i have had this setup for the past 6 months and i have had no trouble with it all.

That's just to protect the alternator, unless there is something I'm missing that makes it a redundancy?

If you get a short while the engine is running, isn't there potential to hurt the alternator?

1. Weight
2. safety (in a front end collision the battery will spark and ignite any fumes in the compartment.
3. if it breaks loose it wont fall into the engine. (yes that happened to me before)

room under the hood and removal from a high vibration and heat source.

Vibration and heat are the number 1 killers for batteries.

Some people with Front mounts need slim batteries or relocated ones due to fitment.

weight? if you move it to the back, the car still weighs the same.......actually probably more if you consider the wiring it takes to do it.
