Cool Can an n/a 2nd gen beat an n/a MKIV Supra?

Hey, my friend just got a Supra! I'm soooooooooo jealous!
He's broke now, so he won't be modding it for a while.
Do you guys think an n/a RX-7 without porting can beat one?

Yo,

I'd say yes. I was in my buddies GTUs and we raced a MkIII turbo and he barely walked us. You should kill the NA.

I ripped up a MKIII Supra Turbo in my old CRX Si one time. Sorry, this isn't an RX-7 story, but it is pretty funny.

I pulled up to a light and the guys in the Supra laughed at my car and asked what it was. I told them what kind of car it was, and they laughed again. I told them I would race them if they thought my car was that funny. They followed me to a side street, I honked three times, and we launched. I shut it down after 2nd gear, and had already pulled about 5 car lengths. When they pulled up after that, they had this stunned look on their faces. Then the guy tells me it's his brother's car, and he doesn't know how to drive it very well. No **** Sherlock.

I apologize if my non RX-7 talk offended any of you guys, but I warned you beforehand.

Anyway, it should be a pretty good race, as long as you know how to drive.

Supra's are heavy *** biotches. You should beat him easily.

Both have power comparable to a V6/I6... but you're lighter .

That Supra will run 15.5 all stock, with the average driver. He has tons more torque. If your 7 is stock and N/A, and you are both average drivers, he will beat you, but not by much. It really will come down to the driver.
1/8mile will favor him, so only run him 1/4 mile.

Surprised no one has mentioned this. If he is so new to sticks, can he downshift correctly? If he can't take him from a roll.

I'd feel sorry for your friend, not happy. The supra is kinda ugly to most people on the road, and the only thing that you can do in one (if you own one) to get back at 'em is smoke them in their Z28/Trans Am/Corvette/Viper/Whatever

And your friend won't be doing much of that in an N/A Supra. Although WE think it looks cool..

If you are talking about a ported and modded RX then you should blow him out. Like other people said people with torquey cars typically spin their tires too much, espcially if they are new to the car. The funny thing is that i was going to buy one of those but the guy sold it to a friend instead of me. But hey it definately worked out for the better.

My roomate has a MkIII Soopie Turbo and HE was jealous of my T2!!! They are very big and very heavy. He may have me by 80-100 hp (cuz of mods), but his extra weight (like 600-800 #) makes a huge difference. If he gets you on the street take him to an autocross...

Hehe, a better driver. No seriously, the car was pretty quick (15.3 in the quarter), but he should have kept up better than that. The kid just couldn't drive.

I was kinda scared though cuz i have an N/A but hey just like you guys say its all about the driver...well most of it

well, take advantage if the fact that he can't drive well, because when he gets the hang of it (assuming he doesnt wreck it first) it will get harder and harder and harder to beat him ...

the Supra is much heavier, yes ... but it also has a lot more low end power and torque ... so all he really NEEDS to do, is get you on a good launch and it's hopeless. he probably won't run away from you, but you will not be able to pass him for love nor money ...

your exhaust should make a big difference, but even with that ... he'll still have more power and torque, but the key is that you will have improved your horsepower to weight ratio and that will turn the tables ... once you get a good launch, it will be hard for him to pass.

after you get the exhaust, get a light flywheel and decent clutch ...
