Can i tow a trailer with my FC?

i dont want to have to do it, but im moving across the country and i dont have the grand that it takes to rent a truck, and another 300 to get a trailer for the car. I can get a small trailer for 127, do you guys think that it will make it? i have to go over some mountains in the process, namely the rockies.

89' gxl, 94000

thnx for the input all.

how much will the trailer weigh when its loaded? I live near and have been across the rockies. I wouldn't want to try towing something through there with a N/A RX-7.

Maximum weight is posted on the sticker based on the GVWR (probably around 3800 for your car).

That means that the car loaded with fuel, drivers, and stuff, can not tow a trailer that makes the whole thing weigh more than that GVWR rating.

So if your GVWR is 3800, and the car weighs 2900, and you weigh 180, and your stuff inside the car weighs another 300, and your passenger weighs 125, you can tow about 300 lbs including the trailer and all.

Don't think there are that many trailers that weigh less than a couple hundred lbs.

just towed my new 86 rx7 with my friends 240sx last night. his 240 has more torque than a 7 but i don't think any thing with a manual tranny is really made to tow anything, too much heat on the clutch(i think we just fried his 240's clutch that he got... about... 11 days ago. WHOOPS). big trucks that tow always have huge tranny coolers to get rid of the extra heat.

How does it cost a thousand dollars to rent a truck? When I moved here from MI (granted, this was in '95) we got a truck from Budget (IIRC) for ten days. Drove up there, visited the folks, got our stuff, and drove back (about 3K miles round trip). Under $500 total.
I KNOW we put more stuff in that truck than you can get in the Seven and a dinky trailer.

Don't forget that you'll pay about $200 for Uhaul to install a hitch on the car. And they probably won't rent you a trailer if they know you're going to excede the GVWR of the intended tow vehicle.

All that being said, I just put a hitch on my car and built a tire trailer

I wouldn't. The RX-7 is a sports car, not a work truck.

The guy who bought my previous RX-7 ('80) towed it home with his '86 N/A. He pulled it with a nylon rope while his buddy steered the car being pulled. He wasn't very bright, but as soon as he gave me the money and I gave him the title, I didn't care.

you know the KA that they put in the 240 is the same block they used in their compact pickup trucks right?

Just think how screwed you're gonna be if your car breaks on some mountain road. Not only will you have to pay someone to tow your car, but find someone to tow the trailer as well.
