I ask this, because my passenger side, rear brake caliper on my TII is partially seized. I've got an '87 N/A base model that's currently serving as a parts car, so is there anything I can steal off of it to replace my TII's seized rear caliper?

i dont belive you can....

looking at both a base model and t2 the rear brake calipers look somewhat similar,

however, the t2 uses alot thicker, vented rotors, in the back which are slightly larger in diameter also..
vs the base model which has solid skinnyer rotors.....

 

To add to what kompressorlogic has to say, they base models utilized a single piston caliper vs. the 4 piston calipers teh T2's, GXL's and the GTU models all had.

 

^ That applies to the fronts only. The rears are actually very similar with the biggest difference being the rotors.

 

im pretty sure as long as the Rear on the base are vented, if there not vented then no, cuz T2 had vented rears

 

Well yeah... The N/A has non-vented rears, so the caliper is too 'narrow' to fit the thick TII vented rotors.

That being said, no-one attempted the second (implied) part of my question...

Will Base N/A, FRONT calipers fit on TII REAR rotors? Hmm?

I would just pull them off and test-fit them, but there's heinous boxes and shelves blocking the front wheels of the N/A (which has quickly been buried in my garage).

 

it was my understanding that the fronts are interchangeable, only difference is that the 4-piston is a whole heap better. and there was a variation in the rears. one was for solid rotors, and one for vented. and they can't be exchanged, because the solid rotor caliper can't grab a rotor as thick as a vented rotor. and i don't know why you would use a vented rotor caliper on a solid rotor... kind of a downgrade...

edit, i just saw the last post. and the answer is no. you can not put single piston front calipers on the rear, and the vented or solid rotor has nothing to do with it. the rear calipers mount differently...
