Can I flip the Differentials Internals? Or mount diff front section upside down?
Can I flip the Differentials Internals? Or mount diff front section upside down?
I know crazy question asking for a friend, he has 2-3 built Civic D series engines (Vitara) for about $2.5-3k @ 450Hp set aside as backup for his main car. He also has an FC shell.
He asked why not put the engine in an rx7 & I said because it spins CCW & so I'm here now lol.
This issue is that the D Series engine spins CCW vs 99% of the worlds engines spinning CW(Clock Wise)
The typical fix is a CCW transmission, but this leads to not being able to downshift & using a gear lockout.
We could use a CRV trans & Mount the engine horizontally, but Ewwww
My Fix!! Flip the diff upside down like the AWD K series guys do..
Or custom Ring gear system that rotates other way?
I figure if we can spin the front section of the diff upside down & redrill/mount sections or at least the internals or even us a Ford 8.8 upside down this could make this feasible so my friend can have a 1 off rx7 anyone care to throw their 2 cents?

The bolts between FC rear cover/diff mount and 3rd member do appear to be symetrical, so should be zero issue flipping the 3rd member (front of diff containing all functional diff parts).

KSP used to make a diif mount that bolted to the same place as the exhaust hangers, something like that would work. i can't find a pic of it
Inside the FC transmission anyways are the oil troughs that take oil that gets slung up to the top by the gears, and drain it down to the front and rear of the transmission to lube the bearings. I don't know how their function would be affected if the oil is slung to the opposite side of the transmission, or if it has any effect at all.
