(A/C)Where to get compressor replacement?

Hey guys I need help making a decision. I hear a lot of bad things about re-manufactured compressors so I'm thinking of just hunting for one that's used. Are there any aftermarket alternatives? I'm replacing everything except for the evaporator so I only want to do this once.

This is all on an 88 GXL

I'm worried about not knowing what's been run through it before. With all this confusion over compatible refrigerants it's made me nervous about having a contaminated system (not so much confused now as unsure). I'll probably just get a used one but I want to make sure I think of all the options. I guess I could just ask

With any luck you get one from a car that was recently running with original AC
I think I still have the one that came out of my car, it had never been recharged. You have to check when you go to replace yours as there were 2 compressors

I got one from a fellow member for 20 bux. Flushed it and used Freeze12 and it works great. Just find one from somebody who is going to strip a car for the track and you can find them pretty cheap.

Awesome, I'm planning on running freeze 12 when its all said and done.

Any idea what's the difference between the two compressors? How can I find out which one I need?
