A/C reinstallation Q's
I have been looking around and searching, but I have only really come up with more questions.
I have an 88 vert that i've owned for about two years. The previous owner did an AC delete, taking out the compressor, P/S, the condenser, drier, evaporator and blower, and of course the lines and brackets
Luckily the heater core is still there, but i can't really use it bc there is no blower.
I've been seeing a lot of Sanden?/nippon talk going around and was wondering if and/or how are they interchangeable?
Do I need to find only S4 parts? or can S5 parts work as well? Like if I find lines from an S4 car can I easily mate that to an S5 compressor?
I'm not in a huge rush but my time frame is for next spring to have AC in my car.
Any and all help is appreciated
thanks

Your best bet is to buy all the parts from one car-a complete system
There is sanden. There is Denso. There is Dealer installed. There is factory installed. That makes four different systems. A mix and match approach will leave you frustrated.
I believe that the only part that crosses over is that the Denso compressor fits both factory and dealer installed Denso systems, the Sanden compressor fits both factory and dealer installed Sanden systems.

Okay, that being said and understood with the compressors, would it be a bad idea to get a parts store (ie: autozone, pepboys, etc.) blower motor to get some kind of airflow into the cabin?

Best bet is to buy an entire A/C from some dumbass who is removing it. Or a really smart guy who is tracking the car.

Nope, not necessarily. I have an S5 that has one piece line set, just exactly the same part as on my S4 sanden. These cars have 4 distinct A/C systems.

if the shop i worked at was still rx-7 exclusive( or even if i worked there anymore!) i would see what interchages and not, b/c i'm pretty sure there is SOME compatbility between them, more then what is known.
But i agree, find a dumb street racer or a smart track car builder .

It is always possible that is is from an S4, but I bought the car in 04, it hadn't been registered on the street since 99. Of course, the A/C was dry. It looked like the layers of crud on the compressor matched the layers of crud on everything else. If it was swapped, it was relatively early in the car's life.
On that note, I have heard that the 91 cars were a dog's breakfast of leftover parts as Mazda cleaned out the old stock at the end of the manufacturing run. Might have been the same on A/C's in 90. The numbers were headed way down...
Regarding exchanges- I know the 'dealer' cars all had the same drier regardless of Denso/Sanden. The factory cars had the same drier-Denso/Sanden independent. That probably is about it, but just an educated guess.

It could be the same with the evaporators.

a few notes:
s4 factory is a denso compressor
s5 factory is a sanden compressor
the denso compressor won't fit on a sanden mounting bracket but you can grind the bracket to fit it. the sanden pumps fit further forward than the denso pumps and use the rear 2 unthreaded mount holes in the sanden bracket.
lastly, the sanden pumps are not very R134 friendly, they are by far the crappiest compressors i've seen in any model 7 and i have 2 of them in brick form waiting to be sent to be recycled back into aluminum. they simply can't handle the extra pressure of the R134a system. the densos i have used work perfectly fine.
the S4 densos will also thread right into the condensor fitting and firewall solid line fitting right off the rubber hose ends. the way the 2 compressor lines bolt to the compressor however is different and isn't interchangable.
lastly, the S4 seems to use slightly larger high side diameter hard lines and so past the evaporator core the systems are not interchangable.
