Question A/C Condensor...Yank it?

I just swapped out my old radiator for a Koyo Aluminum! THe only thig I am wondering is if I should yank the A/C condensor to allow better flow? Will it really make that much of a difference? I am also running a Blk Magic E-Fan with it!

And I am not sure if I ripped it out if there would be a lot of FREON all over the place...do I need to have the system discharged before hand?

Let me know!

Well, depending on how long the system's been charged, it could very well be empty. To test it, find a cap on the big line along the back of the engine bay. Wearing gloves and eye protection, press the little thing under the cap (like a tire air thingy). If nothing comes out, the system's discharged. If stuff does come out, you can vent it yourself (illegal) or have a shop do it. After that, its pretty simple to yank that junk out. If you'd prefer to wait, I'll be doing a writeup with pictures shortly.

pull that **** out! if you dont ever use/care about AC, pull it! yeah, its very...very illeagal to vent it to the atmosphere, but whens the last time you heard of cops rolling around to see if your venting freon?

Ive pulled it on both my rx's, it runs slightly cooler, but nothing breath taking. Its easy to pull out, takes about a hour including a lunch break

Yes its illegal but you're missing the point, its NOT illegal because you will get a fine, its illegal because the amount of R-12 (unless its been converted, and either way 134a is not much better) released from one car is probably equvilaent to our ozone layer as 1/2 the cars in L.A. running for a day.

We've enough f*&%$ing trouble keeping our cars cool and you guys want to heat up the earth that much more to save the 20 bucks a local will stiff you to properly drian your system? whateva........call me a tree hugger but I'd rather be emitting emissions from my tailpipe for another 60 years then tugging a/c systems without properly driaining them for 5....

I kind of like having A/C during the summer, but if you dont use it, there's really no reason to keep it.

1/2 the cars in LA running for a day huh? Is that a fact?...

You know what most cheap yards do with the r12 they drain? they take it in back, and drain it to the outside air. Also, ever gone to a AC shop, How much of R-12 or 134a is vented while just getting the system setup? Ive been to quite a few, And ive charged a few systems. theres a decent amount of lost freon thats vented just getting everything put on.

How about the cars that have leaks, the cheap AC shops dont check for leaks, they start to fill it, and when they start to hear it leaking, they stop. but how much was vented in that time? according to you it'd be close to 1/4th the cars in LA....

The amount of freon Ive vented dosnt even come CLOSE to 2 hours a AC shop vents.

Do you wanna start on people running cars that get 8mpg next? cause, thats a lot of polution too..

Cmon man, If your really that worried about it. go ahead and become a cop, and do nothing but roll around areas that have a lot of street racers, or car builders, and bust all of them for causing polution.

UPDATE: Well I checked my A/C lines and no pressure at all! So for the following three hours I ripped every line and hose and pump and wire associated with the A/C...

I also ripped out the Condensor which allows me to sport the Koyo Logo and mounted the Radiator with the Blk Magic E-Fan!

So I just wanted to say thanks for all the suggestions and for the people wanting to save the air....I didn't harm a thing, I had absolutely no FREON!

Thanks guys!

yes, but jst because an A/C shop does illegal operations, does that mena we can all go around ***** nilly venting harmful gases into the air unnecessairily? no.

And as far as the law enforcement thing goes, they are out for A/C shops diong just what you have said - any place that would waste R-134 at 365.00 per 22lb bottle as opposed to nitrogen for checking system leaks are probably going to go bankrupt before anything else.

The argument is actually not one at all - venting r-12 or 134a into the atmosphere is illegal and bad for the envrioment. Arguing its ok because you see others do it is simply obsurd and foolish and reflects poorly on you. Whether the equivalency is accurate or not beats me, I just threw it out there, but it IS a fact that it is far more harmful than vehicle emissions - period, you don't believe me read the august issue of SSGM magazine from 2005 - HUGE article.

edit: and as far as cars that devleop leaks as you mentioned - that is unavoidable - you just draining it in your backyard because you don't want to pay to properly dispose of it is ENTIRELY avoidable so that point is moot
