Buzzing around UIM s5 t2

Its not the bac, or the aws ... but its coming from around that area... the buzzing sound is intermittent... and seems to be directly related to the misfiring/backfiring. Could the acv be responsible for this? perhaps its something behind the manifold like the injectors, or the spider? its a rapid sound... if it was an injector, it would be more of a tick, than a buzz... Think of a very loud bug zapper... about the same sort of sound, just intermittent. mostly happens when the car is in neutral, but when you're driving, you can hear it as well.

Smell from the exhaust at idle is a rotten egg/wet nasty fart smell. MPG is ****. So whatever it is, is causing the car to run pig facking rich.

Pls help!

Thanks
-Ross

Sounds almost like a stuck or sticky injector...Or maybe something is just loose?

I don't think so Aaron. Sounds mechanical. the pitch doesnt change as you rev it... the buzzing just cuts out a bit more as the rpms go up... What's around that area that could cause the buzzing? Anyone around ottawa feel like having a quick look?
Thanks

turbo might be hitting the turbine housing... Never heard a sound that loud unless its metal hitting each other.

why would the turbo be hitting the exhaust housing at idle? and the sound is coming from the bac/acv/uim area... not down where the turbo is..

Cheers, is there a heat shield anywhere around there? Doesnt really sound like a loose heat shield... more like a mechanical buzzing...

GTIguy, once again, i know where the turbo is located, and the sound is coming from a higher location.

mechanical buzzing = heat sheild rattling around near turbo most likely.

There are two heat shields near the turbo. I think... i can't remember, double check in the FSM

fc3s.org has the manual online.

But YES, there are heat sheilds near the turbo.

Also there is a heat sheild bolted to teh bottom of the intercooler.

Check that as well.

I just noticed you're talking about a KOUKI FC - try scanning for error codes?&nbsp If it's an electrical short or a fried component, the error code should pop up...

Tried scanning for error codes... Got a tps one a while ago, readjusted the tps, code never came back.

And it is not a heatshield
checked again today
coming from the upper half of the upper intake manifold... where the bac, aws... upper fuel rail... FPR ... all of those things are....

Any more ideas?
