Buying a TII with blown motor. Good idea or bad?

Theres this guy selling hes 88 TII with no motor. I was wondering if it would be a good idea or a bad one to buy this car and drop in a J-Spec motor. He wants 2500 Canadian. How much do you guys think it will cost me for the motor and to install it?

Thanks

-Joe-

gah!

that's WAY high for a t-II

I'm buying a nearly mint 88 AE TII with 90,000KM on it for $1500
and I get to keep the old motor, too!
it's a good idea, but not for that kinda cash.
offer $1000 and tell him that's all its worth.

I agree with the above,I paid $700 for a TII with a blown motor 3 years ago,but the rest of car was mostly poor as well.Anyway you can buy a J-spec motor complete with turbo for about $850 in Toronto.
Hey Terrh I thought you said that car was brilliant all round!

i paid 250 bucks for mine, the interior is clean but body needs work. i spent 900 on the motor. all the mods i already had. i have done a lot lof work, and stil have a lot to do, so you have to expect that if you buy a project car. but if i had it to do again, i prolly would have just bougt a nice working FC instead. but i can say i have learned a lot about the car this way.

**** you guys got some good deals. i paid 4,000 for my 88TII but it was well worth every penny to me

i got with 84,000 bone stock miles. when i got my hands on her she had never been touched as far as mods go. ive done some mods since i picked her up and she runs strong, i can keep up with my pops 3rd gen.

since that car you want doesnt have a motor i would offer 1000 to 1500 like the guys above say.

Be careful if it is NO MOTOR

If the motor is blown, and all of the parts are still there, it will be fairly simple to put a new motor in.
If the motor is removed, you may be missing lots of small pieces (Or not know where they go)
If it is still assembled it is a lot more appealing.
Go for $500 to $1,000
Good Luck!

Thats the best way to buy a Turbo II! Then your not worried all the time when you hit 9Psi if the motor is gonna blow up. I wouldn't pay more than 1,000 US personally, depending on the condition.

depends on the condition of the body. an 87-88T2 with a blown motor is worth around 500-1k depending on how nice everything is.

Six Rotors, it is, almost!

Just a few little things missing from the interior, and a little bit of wear on the leather seats!

and I'm paying $1500, and that's almost too much
hehe

That seems like the clever grammar and spelling of someone from Ontario....
J/K.
Sean
I paid $500 CDN for a body.
I think I've seen a pic of the car you're after....
silver $2500 cdn, no motor.
IMHO, the car did not look worth half that.

I want to get a another Series 5 but with a blown engine as well, I can't have a drifter and a street racer car all in one anymore. So I may be getting a dedicated drifter car soon.

I paid a grand for mine, all it really needed was a clutch and brakes. I went ahead and modded it anyways.

That car is in the Autotrader - seems pretty high to me for a car with no engine - but AE cars are selling in Ontario for $5 - $7000
in good running condition, so it might be worth while to dicker on this one if the body and interior are A1
