Buying new water pump .. which to get?
I have a choice of a few brands it looks like
1. OEM Mazda - Not going to buy it. Probably around 200 bucks
2. Cardone - Lifetime warranty - 55 bucks
3. Beck/Arnley - 1 year warranty - 85 bucks
4. ASC - Lifetime - 75 Bucks
5. Duralast - Lifetime - 75 bucks
Is one brand necessarilly better then the other when it comes to water pumps? Or should I just stick with the cheaper one that has a lifetime warranty ?

Unless I wanted the learning experience I wouldn't rebuild the water pump myself, just to save about $35 in parts.
Cardone makes great pumps, and backs them up. Go with it and keep the paperwork (warranty) in case you ever need it.

I recently faced the same decision (although you seem to have more options)- the Cardone was the only one actually available locally, so I got it.
I consider water pumps to be disposible items anyway, much like brake pads and spark plugs.
An option I suppose...IF you have a press and the proper bearing tools handy.
