burnout question

I was wondering if there was a way to sit there and roast your tires with a manual transmission.

Brakestand or line-lock.

Maybe try bleach.

While sitting at 3000 rpm, dump the clutch and floor the gas. As far as sitting there, I don't know how they do that. Left foot braking I guess.

I've tried left foot braking, but it doesn't work.

Where do you get line lock?

Do you have a N/A or a T2?? With a N/A, rev to about 6krpm (no torque) sidestep clutch and immediately put left foot on brake pedal. Youll have to watch how much pressure you apply to the brake, too much and you will die out and stall, and too little your car will push forward. Thuthfully a near stock N/A FC (with a LSD) wont sit there and roast them, just not enough power to overcome the brakes. A T2 on the other hand will spin em no problem, and youll only have to rev to like 4k instead of 6 or 7.

Any paricular reason you want to sit there and roast your tires? It's not that big a deal, just wears your tires out faster.

Line-lock is an electronic hydraulic locking solenoid. You plumb it into your front brake lines. When you step on the brakes and push down the push button on the inside of the cockpit, the solenoid electronically shuts, and you can let off the brakes, and your front brakes will be locked on. Idf you can't keep the tires spinning now, you need:
- crappier tires
- bleach
- more power

Line-lock also signifcantly helps with launching a stick car. It is one of my favourite modifications. To get the best consistency with one, though, you need a brake pressure gauge. (Now that's a fun one to watch)

Summit racing (summitracing.com) sells three brands of it, from $40 -$117. I use the Hurst, which happens to be the most expensive.

I beg to differ on that comment!
My '86 has no problems at all with roasting the rear tyres at a standstill if I want it to.

It all depends on how you wire it. I wired it with the stock switch, so the solenoid is closed whenever the button is depressed, so it turns off when you let go of the button.

No news yet on the nitrous kit... especailly with me heavily considering leaving the FC scene.

No, it is dependant on how you wire it. You could wire it to come on with pressure using a Hobbs switch, if you really wanted to.

nooooooooooooo! Heh, have fun working on the 13b-REW. I love my lil fc since it seems like everything is easily accesible. I popped the hood of my friends FD to help change spark plugs and I thought I'd have to go on an expedition to find them.

You don't need 6K to burn the tires. Usually only takes about 3-4K in my car. Keep your right foot on the gas and immediatly move your left foot from the clutch to the brake. The car will move forward for a second, but then you'll get a good stand still burn for as long as you want.

It's easier to spin the tires when it is wet, right? Water acts as a lubricant.

Bleach does the same thing... and it just happens to dissolve rubber.

I haven't been able to do a burnout in my 88 GTU yet unless it's raining. Although I think my clutch is starting to slip a bit.
My 88 SE did them pretty well.

Here's my methods for burnouts.
The cheater way is to get one of your tires on the rounded down curbs of sidewalks.
(EX: -._ not straight down)

Just hold the brake a bit then gun it. You'll leave a nice black mark down the street.

Ok My method is to use my left foot dedicated for the clutch. I then use the heel of my right foot for the brake while give gas with my toes.

I hold the brake with my heel and rev it to around 4k-ish and then let the clutch out. Works

===Also the bleach helps degrade the tire and helps it "burn out" I don't recommend using it too much unless your gonna get new tires.
