building n/a motor??

well im kinda new to 7's and im looking for a fresh drift car since i totaled the s13. ive asked about turbo swaps but it just seems like a lot of work. i have an 87 n/a and i was wondering about what was possible with the n/a motors ive looked into rebuilds but i dont understand how much more power you get from a rebuild. im not looking to spend over like 5k and i need about 250 horse i was wondering if this is even possible with an n/a motor. if anyone has built an n/a to about 250 hp and wouldnt mind sharing their set up it would be greatly apprechiated!!!! thanks to all who help in advance!!!!!

Not easily done. The only thing that will get you there is a bridgeport, open exhaust and a standalone.

Most people don't find it worth it to spend all that time and money for only 250HP.

it might be close with a REALLY good tune.

my two cents: rebuild it then go with a stock turbo setup on the na. dont need much psi. and you could get 220 with the right supporting mods.

Having no knowledge of rotaries, I don't think you'd want to get into a 200+hp n/a 13B; that takes a LOT of expertise, and the car will be unstreetable at that point.

250hp is NOT gonna happen with a reasonable amount of money; and even 250 at the flywheel is difficult (the rebuild and porting alone will run you a few grand, at least.) If you're gonna crash cars, sell the RX7 go find yourself another Nissan 240SX to total.

Like the other guys said, you CAN turbo an n/a, but you'd do better to buy a TurboII, if you're REALLY intent on this high-powered rotary idea.

probablly around 150-160 with full exhaust and a tune. and thats pushing it.

honestly na's are hard to get over 200(especially s4's being they were only 140 from factory). can it be done yes. but turbo swap (or 6 port turbo) is really the only way to make 220 and actually be dependable and cheaper.

I actually have a pretty nice set up going but it is like 1500 down the drain.
1. Complete 13B n/a set up with Large Street Port and 0.001 Sided polished rotors.
2. S5 n/a VDI ported and polished with throttle body mod and cold air intake.
3. 460cc primaries and 550cc secondaries.
4. 2.5 inch exhaust.
5. complete rebuild solid corner seals and 2 piece OEM Mazda Seals.
6. Spec Clutch
7. FD Fuel Pump
8. 6 port sleeve inserts
9. Possible Stand alone it will come later on in the project.
10. Square coolant seals for perfect fit and OEM mazda oil rings.
11. Oil Pressure Modification.
12. FD Corner Seal springs.

That is really it that i can think of I'm thinking about getting 220 or so I hope.

To make a long story very short, you're not going to make 220 at the wheels on a street ported NA without some kind of power adder.

If you bridge port, you can make those numbers but bridge ported NA cars are not exactly the nicest things to drive. Getting 8 MPG in the city to make 250-270HP is not my idea of a good time. Oh, and you've not heard loud until you hear a ported NA rotary set up with an exhaust that is going to make power to it's potential.

And here is a n/a 13B

13B-RE converted to n/a crappy header, small street port

206 rwhp, 151 rwtq

Add to the already swapped 13B re engine:
1 - aftermarket intake\TB
2 - Better exhaust\header
3 - larger street port

And I believe you can VERY close to your 220hp at the wheels, without going bridge port.

You could do a street port with a dual carb. Put in S5 N/A rotors and e-shaft (along with correct counterweight and an aluminum flywheel), 5th and 6th port sleeves, racing beat header with straight 2.5" exhaust, new fuel pump and fpr, and some ignition. Also get your engine balanced so you can run a 9k-10k rpm redline (don't forget scatter shield).

All that said you would probably still get stomped my a stock TII with a boost controller and exhaust. Plan on a TII swap if you want to make power. Otherwise lighten up your car as much as you can because all the mods in the world won't give you what you paid for. Would be a cool engine though.
