Broke oil cooler mounts. Question about new ones, and how to take oil lines off.

Well, I spent a good part of today trying to get the old oil cooler lines off the cooler. Those things are on there pretty dang well. I was wondering, is there any special trick? In the process of reeming on it, i broke the already breaking mount.

Is there any place to get a cheaper mount then mazdatrix? I saw theirs for $35 each, and I need two. Not bad price, just wondering if there are any cheaper.

So, since I am replacing the mounts, I am probably going to pull my cooler out, after I get the lines off it, and spray it down, clean it, and maybe straighten the fins. Is it a good idea to try and straighten the fins? Best tool for it? I figured some needle nose pliers and a thin flat head screw driver.

Would painting the cooler help any? Or hurt it's cooling? My thought is that the paint would reduce the cooling.

Thanks guys!

dont paint it. get some mounts from a forum member or make some. straighten the fins with a flathead. i got the mounts off mine by removing the 2 bolts and hitting it with a hammer. it bent them a bit but they bent right back. i can check tomorrow and see if i have an extra set if you're interested.

The Cooler lines are held on with a 15/16 inch socket.or 23 mm (which is a Very odd size).the brackets can be made up NO problem,by using a piece of aluminum. If your cooler's Fins are all screwed up and Bent, the best thing to do would be to trash it and get another used cooler from One of the guys on forum.(sorry I sold my last one a month ago.),Check the Sec Gen Parts For Sale Section. When it comes Back from Being Fixed(Server problem,I guess).

Ok, so don't order new mounts? I am guessing that the rubber there to reduce vibration isn't badly needed?

There are only a couple fins bent. Overall the cooler is still in good shape.

I have some stainless steel laying around. Friend gave it to me, but he paid $600 for a 4' x 3' piece. Really really tough stuff. Should I make the mounts out of that? Not really thick though. How thick should it be? 1/8th inch? stuff i have looks more like 1/16th inch thick, like sheet steel.

Thanks for the quick responses.
