Bridgeported engine swapped irons

I have a quick question. I am in need of an engine and found one that a seller has but is bridgeported. It has been rebuilt with a couple thousand miles on it and am wondering if I would be able to swap out the irons with the engine I have now and run it. This is my daily driver so a bp'd engine would do me no good and was thinking of this as an alternative.
Thanks.

We'd have to know which model your engine and the other engine are. S4/S5? NA/TII?

If the engine is the same year and model (turbo or NA), then yes. But keep in mind that "swapping the irons" means rebuilding the engine. While you can reuse the seals on the rotors, you will need a gasket set and you'll have to go through all the cleaning procedures. If the bridgeports extend into the housings, then you would need to replace the housings as well...

Either way you are looking at a rebuild.

Yup, rebuild either way if you want to swap them out. If they did the bridge right it will run and idle perfectly but the gas milage and rpm range you will have to get used to. And texFCturboII: If he wanted you to have the irons he'd probably let you know but if you really want some great bridgeported irons contact me; I'm selling a brand new set. Good luck on your engine FC13BINJECTION

The engine is an 87 na and I have an 86 na. It is not the same year but same series, will that work? I know I will have to rebuild it but was trying to see if I could save some money swapping parts because from what is posted on here it can range from $600-900 depending on what you need. Also by extending into the housings, are you talking about the exhaust ports?

No, he's talking about a massive bridge port that extends into the housings to give more airflow I believe.... that jsut sounds screwy to me, it seems you'd mess up the contact surface pretty bad doing that, I dunno. And yes, same series will work just fine. If your rotors are fine, apex seals are fine, everything in the engine is fine, you just want to swap the irons then a gasket kit should cost you around 200 to 300 bucks IIRC....

He means whether the housings are "notched" or not.

Brideports are often cut into the iron past the edge of the housing, thus the housing must be notched as well.

I'm talking about a real man's bridgeport. Making a notch in the housings does not "mess up the contact surface pretty bad".
