Brake rebuild on my fc..... brake piston help.
Brake rebuild on my fc..... brake piston help.
Probably for the first time since it rolled off the assembly line, my brakes are getting tlc.
So i blew the pistons out of their bores with compressed air and only had to unstick one piston very carefully with a set of channel locks
I have a good bit of surface rust on several of the front pistons that will require some attention with a wire wheel. It's far enough away from the inner bore seal that it shouldn't be a big deal especially if i polish it down but i'm curious of what others did.
Did you clean up your "bad" pistons and reuse them without a problem or did you buy new ones, if so, why?
I'm concerned about proper sealing. I dont want to have to do this job twice.

Mine were rusted, so I used a wire wheel, and some sandpaper. Got the pistons real smooth, than polished them, lubed them, put the gaskets on them, and slid those things back into the hole. Oh, I hope you didn't already, but DON'T SPLIT THE CALIPER IN HALF! Oh yeah, I didn't notice any difference in stopping power, or performance. The one thing that held me up was that my brake master cylinder said its farewell at the time, so I got a new one.

Thanks! I'd give you a firm handshake if i could.
My BMC is for sure dead. Something in side it is either stuck, clogged or just generally not working. I trouble-shot all the lines checking for kinks/bends.... The caliper pistons weren't terribly screwed but even with the brakes OFF the car, the brake pedal still had a shitload of pressure behind it.
Again, THANK YOU SO FREAKIN MUCH. I was close to doing what the fsm said and replacing the pistons..... $25-50 per piston isn't cheap.
