The broken bolt is not holding it. Beat the back of it with a hammer.

Just buy new ones and paint them or get colord ones.

How did you get the fronts off? I had to pull my assembly down and have them pressed off.

painting brake rotors!? what!? i hope thats a typo... but if your really going to take them off only to paint them don't bother because it will wear off in literally 10 seconds of braking. those screws hold the rotor on but they dont look like they'd do much in their current state. If you have to takke them off i would suggest using a rubber mallot and hitting it until the sound of the mallet hitting the rotor changes pitch. if you arent going to re-use those rotors for whatever reason, use a real hammer. also i know a guy whose brake rotors had some sort of chemical reaction over time with the hub and seized on there (this is what he said, but hes smart so i'd trust it). he had to have a machine shop cut them off, so that may be your only option.

Thats not a big deal those are just the set screws there not needed. You can just drill out those broking screws. or put i believe it is a 10mm in the other hole and start tightings it and it might put off for you. First i would just say drill them out. or drill small hole into the brokin part and use a easy out. When you put it back together dont even bother putting those set screws back in.

ok thanks for the help. So dont bother taking the screws out or replacing them? What holds the rotor in place then?

Second question, are the dust covers necessary? My automotive teacher says they arent really needed but hes kind of a crack head so I'd like some knowledgeable people's opinions . It kind of looks ugly thats why I'm asking but if I should have them on then I will just get them painted.

What kind of paint is good and where can i get it? I've heard lots about "the caliper paint" but I'm assuming thats only available in the US (im in canada).

any help would be great, thanks.

I have the same problem with mine. I have to replace the wheel bearing and the previous owner stripped the **** out of those little *******. I was going to drill off the heads and hope that there was enough nub left to take out with a vice grips.

could you be talking about the caliper? im confused now, too. as long as it isnt any part where the brake pads come in contact with the rotor, i suppose it could be painted. most people paint their calipers and i cant think of anything else under there you'd really want to paint. also, brake caliper paint (or any 'high temperature' paint) should be available at any auto parts store which i assume you have in canada. its also readily available on the internet.

Dude, just leave the dust covers on, you'll get everything as dirty as **** behind your rotor if you take it off. And the whole painting the hub of the rotor is just kind of stupid, it will crack and peel with the heat over time.

**** no, they dont have autoparts stores in canada, they live in harmony with nature, they dont need cars. I think hes talking about the center of the brake rotor where the wheel studs go through.

Just weld a bolt or anything to it and unscrew.

i would seriously just leave them on and take the rust off with a wire brush, tape off the surrounding parts you dont want painted and spary paint them black. it will look fine and you dont have to rip off your rotors, unless you want to replace with new ones.

I had no problems w/ my rears, but you see that little extra hole in the rotor? You put a screw in there to pry the rotor away from the hub. And I will eventually be doing the same thing to mynew rotors, damn shitty rust looking...later
