The intake is pulls in air, to feed your engine. The power an engine makes is from breathing in air, adding fuel, and then combusting the two.

A BOV is there to stop compressor surge on the turbo. Without this, the turbo normally will not last too long. (Although, some people don't run them at all..and don't have any problems. Go figure.)

An aftermarket blow-off valve will cause a rich spot on the stock ECU. This will cause a timely backfire or "pop" (sometimes fire) out of the exhaust everytime you shift. This doesn't really hurt anything, but yeah.

It shouldn't cause that rich spot if the BOV dump is returned back into the intake line.

Well yeah, but you don't get the neat "psh" sound when its rerouted. Whats the point of getting an aftermarket? Lol.

No, you don't have to get a new ECU. You just have to live with a slight backfire on shifts. It's not a bad thing :P

If you mod your intake and exhaust, you're turbo will start to overboost (referred to as wastegate creep, or spiking), which means you will need to get a FCD (Fuel cut defender, as the stock ecu cuts fuel to the rear rotor when boost over 8psi *i think* is detected for god knows what reason.) and also port your wastegate (or pay someone to do it, take a look in the fc3spro.com modifications section.)

Although, if you can afford it, definitely get a standalone ecu (microtech,wolf3d,motec,haltech etc) as it will often fix up many problems at once, allow for better tuneability (more power, and better economy.. if your tuner is competent), and be alot safer for your engine.
