Bouncing oil pressure?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxKsimRqPNA
Notice how it is stable at the high pressure end, and bounces when it is around idle.
Does this look like a problem with the gauge or sensor? I've been told that improper gauge grounding can cause this.
Or does anyone think this cold be a mechanical oil pressure problem with the engine?
Also, I have a Racing Beat 80psi oil pressure regulator.

(nevermind the whirring noise, I think it's a combination of my solid engine and tranny mounts w/ a possibly worn out pilot bearing. )

try testing voltage from the sending unit...if it fluctuates then its not the gauge...

Does your idle RPM's fluctuate a little?
Bridge Port?
Hard to tell from the audio and no tach in the video...

I've never owned a GReddy oil pressure gauge before, but my VDO one doesn't do that.
It's also the reason why the stock oil pressure sender has that capacitor - to damp the pulsations.
The oil system does pulsate like that, and an overly sensitive (oil pressure) gauge would surely show it as such.

The engine was "streetported" by BDC, not a bridge though. My idle is a little lumpy.
Now that I'm thinking about it, the gauge was steady before the new engine went in. So could it be most likely due to the upgraded oil pressure regulator and the port work?

I've a SunPro (cheap is Good) mechanical oil pressure gauge temp installed on my 87Turbo and it has the same characteristics. Solid at three grand, twitches at 35-40 psi at idle (750rpm). Water coolant at 189*.

I'm talking about the last two seconds of your video. As in "one thousand one, one thousand two". When you let off the trottle, it seems your idle takes a moment of two to sustain a steady idle. I mean the rpms must be dropping down near 500rpm (oil pressure gets real low for a moment in your video) or less, then it recovers to ????? rpm. Got me.

That an elect gauge that you have?

I'd find something else to worry about.

Thanks HAILERS, I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a sign of a bad oil pump or something bad.
Yes, it's electric, the sensor is plugged into the stock oil pressure sensor location.

Yeah, the idle thing, I've been trying to fiddle with it for a while. In that vid I actually hit the throttle briefly to keep it from dying since the engine wasn't fully warmed up.I have no emissions, throttle body mod, stock EFI, I think that contributes to the diving idle.

The idle RPM's have to be rock solid for the oil pressure gauge to be steady.
I've noticed big fluctuations if your idle isn't solid.
So what you say makes sense...

As long as the oil pressure is above 15psi (1.0 for you) and hits it's target at 4kRPM - 4.5 = 75psi, so it's good - you're fine.
